Field of view can be increased by toggling the widescreen option in the settings, but the FOV is still too narrow. FOV can be improved with 'Widescreen Fixer' application, but it doesn't support the GOG version.
Do you know any solution?

I tried also the Widescreen Fixer and it crashes my game. So is there a working solution to increase the too narrow FOV?
Maybe something here will help:

The Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 2 Engines are not really related. In the Far Cry 2 console are not really switches to change the FOV, beside giving Widescreen the same FOV as 4:3. You can get a better FOV when choosing a 5:4 resolution. But then you only get 1280x1024.

That's for the first game.

Did you enable "widescreen" in the game settings? The FOV is definitely playable, I'd estimate around 80 degrees, but of course I prefer a bit higher field of view.

I did, it does nothing for me. I have an old fashioned 4:3 display. With time I got a little used to the narrow FOV, the feel of getting sick in no longer that bad.
According to PCGW the Steam version is DRM-free: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/The_Big_List_of_DRM-Free_Games_on_Steam#Ubisoft
I wonder why Widescreen Fixer doesn't work.

That is because Steam and GOG versions of the game have different executables. But Widescreen Fixer patches memory at fixed address.
Here is corrected Widescreen Fixers plugin for GOG version of the Far Cry 2 v1.03.

You should contact the Widescreen Fixer developer and send a pull request: https://github.com/dlrudie/WidescreenFixer

For now I use this mod which includes bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements in addition to unlocking FOV in the GOG version: https://www.moddb.com/mods/hunters-far-cry-2-update/downloads/hunters-far-cry-2-update-gog-version
Hey, glad you're digging the mod!

I've tried to contact David (creator of the FoV fixer) for a few weeks now with no luck.

Hopefully someone here can get his attention and have him officially fix his tool.

FYI, I just released the final version of the Steam mod. GOG final update coming soon!

EDIT: I've found how the game stores FOV values, so I'm also going to release a GOG update with a built in FOV fix so no one has to mess with an external program.

Final GOG version w/ FOV has been released: https://www.moddb.com/mods/hunters-far-cry-2-update/downloads/hunters-far-cry-2-update-gog-final-fov

Should be stable, but haven't had much time to test. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Just FYI since I've spoken to some people lately that didn't know. It is recommended to disable the ingame v-sync and manually cap your frame rate at 75 via launch parameters.

I use: -GameProfile_SkipIntroMovies 1 -RenderProfile_MaxFps 75
