On the Steam version of FC2 there is an issue where when trying to answer a call on the cell phone there will frequently be no voice audio playing. I.E. there's no one on the other line.

So I wanted to know if anyone can confirm this to be present on the GOG version, or maybe let me know they never had this issue with the GOG version.

I have never had this issue. Are you sure it is version specific? Could it not be hardware or driver related? Have you tried adjusting the number of sound channels in the game settings?

Ya I've only had issues with PC [steam]. I've seen other threads where people were having the same problem but I think each time they were also using Steam.

On PS3 I never ran into it. With the Steam version if it started acting up all I had to do was save, exit to main screen and re-load, then it would go away. I don't think it's driver related or anything because of the re-load fix.

So you've played all the way through and never encountered that issue? You have the GOG version I assume?

I'm late for the party. But I resolve this problem by simply pressing the key for the cellphone again, so that I put it back in my pocket. Doing so will trigger whatever mission update like it normal does when someone is done talking to you and hangs up.

(Update: after more testing I can say that this method has improved things for me, but unfortunately not fixed it entirely.)

I may have a solution for users with Realtek HD on-board sound. I've just tried it with a handful of in-game phone calls that would not work for me before and they seem to be completely working for me now. I'll come back to update this post after I've played for a few more hours, just to confirm how well it works over time.

I believe that the problem has something to do with how FC2 handles speaker/channel separation. I think that the game is trying to play the phone call voice through the center speaker of a 5.1 setup, which is obviously useless if you're just using stereo speakers or headphones. The solution, I think, is to turn on virtual surround. This makes the sound card down-mix a 5.1-channel audio signal to 2-channel stereo, attempting to simulate the effect of surround sound. With this on, any sounds sent to the center channel should now be audible.

Two ways you can do this in Windows 10:

Method A: In the Realtek HD Audio Manager software that comes with your motherboard, there's an toggle to turn on "virtual surround." If this software is installed on your computer, it's likely there's an icon in the system tray (by the clock) that you can double-click on to open.

Method B: Right click on the volume control on the taskbar. Choose "Playback Devices." Locate the audio device you're currently using (for me, it's listed as "Speakers"), right-click on that and go to "Properties". From here, open the "Enhancements" tab and there should be a small box with a bunch of options with check boxes. Scroll down until you see "Virtual Surround" and check that box.

(Method B can most probably be done in all other versions of Windows, but the steps might vary slightly).

Hi guys, i'm looking into the issue. The thing that i want to clear up is that it has nothing to do with the audio output: not even the subtitles are displayed.

Some bugs were introduced with the latest patch by the developers. If putting the cell phone away doesn't initiate the mission (you can tell by looking at your map), then you may have to restart your save.

Keep in mind that radio towers all say the same thing; essentially, "go kill this person", and it will show where he's at on the map.
Other missions may be a little more tricky as they sometimes have you doing more specific things but they can still be done. And if it's a main story mission your buddy may call to give you an alternative way to complete it, which gives you another chance to get clued in on what's happening (that is, if it doesn't bug out twice in a row).

I solved this and the bouncing NPC glitch by limiting the fps by adding a launch command to the shortcut:
-RenderProfile_MaxFps 45

I’m being terribly late here ! It seems one definitive workaround is to switch to the DX9 renderer (check the display options). Frankly I didn’t try myself and prefer having DX10, despite several people saying the graphical changes are minimal. Maybe just disabling VSync would work too, I didn’t try either…
