First beginner continent goes well but then the difficulty is cranked up like 3 times harder with invisible guys casting spells on your units, map 300 times bigger(ye ye I know it is not that much bigger but like 3 times bigger with 3 times more stuff to capture), so you make your way capturing town after town but since their leader have limitless spells that if you are unlucky kill or wound many units per turn + a quite big army you also have to rest quite a lot and with the limited time given to me to take the area I can´t seem to capture all towns and kill his units in time altho I am slowly winning on the map, map is the 1st battle on the 2nd continent playing as the warlord guy.
In response to the topic question: "Too few turns to win?"
No, all scenarios can be won by skill (and knowledge) on the hardest difficulty with the most difficult character (Mordra) without cheating.

But its an older 'hardcore strategy' game and the GOG version is (not 100% sure) missing the official(?) strategy guide. Some scenario scripting (win conditions I think) in the campaign is rather unfair if you dont know the details - although unless you play on the hardest setting its probably not too big a deal.

Most scenarios can be won with tactical skills only. For some - depending on difficulty etc - you may need strategy too though. If you play "normally" and dont have much tactical ability the game is going to be hard though...
No longer relevant post, did some research and watched some videos, I just had to broad research and too many different types of weak units instead of focusing on a few unit types. :)
Te enemy generals are basically the evil versions of the chars you can choose.
