I'm having the same problem. I click play, it brings up a black box, and then it tells me it has stopped working. What did you do to get yours working?

EDIT: My issue seemed to be with an older settings file in Documents/my games/Fallout3. After turning off cloud sync in GOG Galaxy (temporarilly) and deleting that Fallout3 folder, the game is now running fine.

If you have mod-free, vanilla build, try XPSP3 compatibility / admin rights first.

I had done that, but thank you for the response. I did get it working though. When I checked the Fallout3 folder in 'Documents/my games/', there was an older settings file in there from a few weeks ago. I believe I tried to install it from steam around then, but I had forgotten about it after having similar issues with it crashing. I deleted the Fallout3 folder and tried again. It crashed when I clicked play, but I noticed that the old file was back. So I turned off the cloud save feature, deleted the folder again, and now it's running perfectly.

Thank you again for your quick reply though.
Crashes on Startup for all of the Bethesda can usually are usually caused by having an old INI file from an older install of the games
i am having the same issue with fallout 1 and 2, still cant get them to work

Do you have the directx set to 9? Try setting it back to directx 7, that worked for me.

And if it's set to directx 7 then try setting it to 9 with f1_res_Config.exe

Plus it always helps to set it to your desktop resolution, if you are on a laptop.
