I want to install the shattered destiny mod for fallout 2 and get it to work. Can someone please instruct me "in simple terms", what to install to do that. I installed fallout 2 from good old games and it got the weird color problem. Someone that has used this mod before, any advice is welcome. Thanks.

I cant figure that out, its too confusing. Cant this be simple? I remember baldurs gate series was simple. You install a mod, it works. Done

Does anyone else know how to give a fairly basic guide on how to install total conversion mods like shattered destiny and wasteland merc. I cant even find the download location of WasteMerc 1.

I give up. This whole fuckin mod network is ridiculous. I have been unable to get any mods to work on either fallout tactics or f2. One of the mods was even in russian and wouldnt translate. I hate to say this, but the entire fallout mod network is complete shit. The complexity of getting any of this stuff to work has about the same chance of bon jovi making a good album or atari making a game that isnt worse than a dead fetus.

Ok, I am going to take a 3rd attempt at this. Awaken is installed in fallout tactics directory. Does anyone know how to install the english update patch so game isnt in russian? I installed it 3 times with no luck.

It seems to me you're panicking, which will not help you interpret instructions or chase down the files intended to be behind broken links.

Actually, there's a mod very easy to install in Fallout 2:

It fixes tons of bugs, and restores stuff that was meant to be in the game (Like EPA, The Abbey, Den residential area, etc).

Fumbled with this yesterday for hours, and finally got it to work.
Install the 1.4 patch into your fallout tactics directory and then...
I'm not sure, unzip the 1.41 patch into fallout tactics/awaken directory?

Anyway, the patch is supposed to place "Awaken" icon into desktop, but didn't work for me. In fact there was no Awaken launcher anywhere. (This with Vista).

Thing is, windows search and all programs can still find and launch the game, despite there being no launcher where they're telling me where they found it. Not perfect, but works.

I apologize that it took me so long to get around to this. 500 MB is a pretty big download for me.
First off, it looks like you can find Shattered Destiny and Wasteland Merc here at ModDB.com.
The copy of Shattered Destiny I downloaded installed with no difficulty. I only had to make certain the path was correct.
Wasteland Merc was a simple copy/paste or unzip from its download, but encountered a memory error. I'll see what I can do about that. However, I must say I'm no programmer, so that won't amount to very complicated efforts on my part.

Anyway, ModDB seems to be your best bet for most of these for now. I wish I knew what's wrong with Wasteland Merc, mind you.

Edit: That last is irrelevant, since GOG doesn't rely on a CD for installation. All GOG installs are humungous.
Covering the first two bases did the trick. The game was still anomalously slow, but at least it functioned.

That didnt work either for shattered destiny. I downloaded the mod to my gog/fallout 2 folder but it bizarrely installed with the color problem psychadelic colors from before. I have almost concluded that the fallout series is the worst modded series ever. Ive played baldurs gate 1, 2 and modded it up the ass and never had any problems. With fallout series, no total conversions work at all.

That's odd. I had the psychedelic colors problem, but I seem to recall a quick alt-tab in and out worked fine for fixing it.
How much did you kick the program about when the color problem began?
