The game starts up just fine on my windows 11 laptop, however, at the character customize screen the area that normally allows you to customize your in-game character shows up grey and blank...
Does anyone have any suggestions on how this can be fixed?

Or at least how I can just accept the standard look and get to playing the game?

It's been happening for some people since the last year, but the exact cause is unknown. Some people said that installing DXVK fixed it.

What's your Windows version? Hardware? GPU driver version?

It converts DX9 driver calls to Vulkan. It's great for fixing various driver problems over the years by avoiding buggy 1st party drivers. Here is an example of setting it up to fix a different problem.

It's Open source and should be virus free. I've used it from github without any problems.
