Howdy all.

New to the forums and had a question regarding FO/ES and modding. Basically, can I still mod a game if I download it from here onto my computer? Thanks for helping =)
Yes, you can use mods just like in the Steam version.

Much appreciated. Thank yoU!
Your welcome. :)
I just downloaded Fallout 3 and was looking to see if the game console worked. I typed in the ~ key but the game console screen didn't open. Is there something I need to do to activate the console commands?
Do you have a controller plugged in? The console doesn't work if you use a gamepad.

I deactivated the controller and used keyboard. ~key did not seem to start console.
Isn't this GoG version of Fallout 3 edited though for compatability?

Are there mods that don't work with or are unecessary for this already somewhat modded version?

Is there a list of what was edited or fixed in the GoG version?

This version has the 4 GIG Large Address Aware flag which the STEAM version does not. Read up about that it will help in the future after modding your Fallout game sucessfully. You still need to patch this game to 1.7 if you prefer. I play without the patches because some of the vanilla bugs are fun to exploit and I already long ago worked a serious playthru on this game so when I play it now I allow myself more freedom to mess around. Up to and including abusing console commands....liberally used of course with lots of other mods and a huge amount of content. ;-)

Also mods can and will clean this game up, even on a vanilla playthru. Use texture mods and if you look for mods you can look several places but the most well known with the most mods is nexusmods.com - you can also install Texture based Fallout New Vegas mods for Fallout 3 too. FONV has a really good clothing retexture mod and it works perfectly with FO3. Both games can use vanilla retexture files from each other too.

You basically should get a few mods to liven up the vanilla experience too. Try looking for Fallout Streetlights and Streetlights of the Wasteland. These are highly desireable mods and create various light sources in the wasteland using existing lights and adding light to street lights which in the vanilla game are few and far between. They are also considered "light" mods without a whole lot of scripting.

I would also look for Fallout 3 Re-Animated - EVE - EXE - HD Glass Impact Decals - Improved Glass Bullet Impact - CRAFT - CALIBR - Bornagain Combat Armor retextures - anything by the authors Cabal120 or EmeraldReign.

They add beauty to the Capital Wasteland and these are nothing more than simple mods. Plus you need if you want of course - you can manually install mods too - a Mod Manager - either go with FOMM or Mod Organizer (my personal favorite). Hope this helps a bit.

Also be aware that some mods require you to download another mod if you want both of them installed. EVE and WMK come to mind, but it's been a while since I played Fallout 3.

To test to make sure the mod was installed correctly, I would play the game up until the exit of the vault, and make a my save there. Then install a mod and test it on the save game to make sure it's working. If if everything seemed fine, then install the next, etc. Some mods are harder to test in this way as you have to go to a certain area or get a certain item to see if it works, but it worked for me. I'd either spawn an item, or turn on god mode, and run to an area that the mod affected to check it.
