Hello guys!

I have several questions about "Fallout Classic vs Fallout" topic. I know that there are a lot threads about it already, but I can't find any proved answers regarding the following moments:

- First things first -- I got FO1, FO2 and FO Tactics before the Bethesda's re-release of these games. As far as I know, installers for them were replaced by the Bethesda's ones when the re-release came out even in the libraries of those gamers who bought these games from the previous publisher -- Interplay. So, what is the changes between these different releases?

According to the official statement of the GOG's staff, there are no changes at all except from additional bonus content which were removed for the Bethesda's releases due to legal reasons. However, I noticed that they also applied the High Resolution Patch and added a launcher for at least FO1 (I didn't launch Bethesda's FO2 yet so I can't say for sure whether it was applied for FO2 too).

Moreover, I noticed that the main menu of FO1 shows that the version of this game is 1.2 when launched via "falloutwHR.exe" and 1.1 when launched via "falloutw.exe". In the file named "ReadMe.txt" I found the following statement:

> This version of Fallout incorporates all the fixes and changes from the 1.1 patch

So, which version of FO1 do they provide then? And does it really differ in the two executable files?

- There's also a lot of messages on this forum that states that the size of installers for both FO1 and FO2 were dramatically increased. Is there something else than the High Resolution Patch?

The launcher is added to both FO2 and Tactics. High resolution patch and sfall are also present in FO2 (sfall was also installed in the previous Interplay version).

Content-wise there are no changes between the Interplay and Bethesda versions. Once past the Beth launcher the games retain their Interplay markings. I'm unaware of any Doom-style changes (e.g. altered scenes or graphics). Fixt and Fallout 2 Restoration both install without issue.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Does anybody know if the newer Bethesda version is censored? I've tried Googling around, and am seeing a lot of contradictory information.

Look at the comment immediately above yours:

Okay. Thank you.

Next question:

Does anybody know if the newer Bethesda version is censored? I've tried Googling around, and am seeing a lot of contradictory information.

I have read in a few places that it is the same as the Interplay version, but exactly which Interplay version is it the same as? Some are censored, (Children removed in UK version, etc.) and some are not. It is my understanding that GOG originally carried the US versions globally, but later switched the the EU version, resulting in a censored release.

Thanks in advance!

The games are censored in all regions across all versions. So unless you use Fixt and FO2 Restoration to restore the content or you have an original Interplay CD with no patches, you have the censored version. I own both the Fallout Collection (MicroForte/Interplay UK version) and the Fallout Anthology (Bethesda) and they are censored. Hope this helps.

Interplay version* of Fallout 2 is uncensored.
I never had to use patches to add kids.
Apparently Bethesda added some BS in their version.
Thankfully there are ways to fix that.
Can't say I'm surprised, you can't kill children in Fallout 3.

* The version which was sold here in Gog. That's the one I'm talking about.

I still have my Interplay installers for Fallout 1 and 2 from here. Fallout 2 Interplay is the same version as Fallout 2 Bethesda - 1.02 US with SFall 3.2. It's still the censored version. The only thing that Bethesda added is the launcher and widescreen patch. Everything else as far as I can tell is the same file version as the Interplay release.

And while you can't kill children in any of the later Fallout games, it's also true that Interplay (through patches) removed the ability in the original games. To restore that content you need to install Fixt and FO2 Restoration Project. Both work with the Bethesda versions as well.

*Yawn*
One minute ago I installed Fallout 2, using my gog installer, from 2014.
It's the file that was available after I purchased Fo2 here, long time ago.
So unless Bethesda asked gog staff to change versions (something which they certainly can do), they didn't change the files.
Not sure what you want me to do, upload the installer for you to believe? Sorry, I wont.
I just killed a kid in Klamath with a spear, using the character Narg, so it's definitely uncensored.
Poor kid made a pool of blood.

Fallout 2 came with sfall, but it's another version.
I just checked, it's version 2.19a.

So that means Gog changed the installers, that's why you thought I was wrong.
Before replying to me, you should've read that part in my post:

That's interesting. I have an installer from 2013. I think it's the same version you have - 1.02 US with SFall 2.19a. After getting through the temple with Narn, I walked over to Klamath. While I wasn't able to outright kill the kid I attacked (she ran away too quickly and I was killed by the townspeople) I'm willing to concede the Interplay installer is not censored in that way as far as I can tell. I'm checking the Beth version next.

Edit: I'm happy to admit I was both right and wrong. Right in that there is no fundamental difference between the Beth and Interplay installs of Fallout 2 from GOG. Wrong in that you can kill children in both versions. Thanks for making me double-check my earlier statements. =)

No problem. ^^
And it's nice to know that Bethesda release has children.
In Fallout 1 they're not very important, but in Fallout 2 I remember at least 2 quests that involve kids (one in Modoc, and the other in Vault City).
They raised the prices for Fo1, Fo2 (they were 5.99 dollars), and Bethesda release has less bonus stuff, so selling the uncensored game seems like the right decision. I know I would never pay more for the censored version.
I heard Bethesda's Fallout 1 and 2 come with Resolution patch already installed, that's cool.
I wonder if timeslip and Mash received some money.
Probably not, but it would be good, they certainly deserve for all the hard work.

Bethesda may not have even used those mods. They have new executables called FalloutwHR and Fallout2HR respectively. I don't think either mod replaces the executable - I could be wrong. I've mostly been using the Fixt and FO2 Restoration when I play, heh.

I've been reading that both the Interplay and the Bethesda collections here have the censored versions of Fallout 1 and 2. I've also read about the patches/mods to "fix" them, but have read they don't restore everything to them, just most things. Does anyone know if the most recent Interplay collection (picture of the one I'm referring to attached) contains the fully original and unaltered Interplay versions of 1 and 2?
