Saw it was on sale, haven't seen my physical copy in ages, and felt nostalgic...downloaded it, went to launch and I immediately received a message from the Microsoft program compatibility assistant informing me that the game might not launch due to compatibility errors and the "solution" I'm given is to download Game for Windows Live (which last I checked wasn't even supported by Microsoft any longer) if I try to run the game it goes to a black screen, sits for about five seconds, crashes, etc...

I'm running without mods on a mid-tier PC with a GTX 1060 6GB that I largely use for work and to play old games. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

same here bro ,,,bought today , installed , started ...same error as with you , win 10 pro , 12 gb ram ... even changed that 1 core shit ..still crashing when i click start new ...can we get refund ?

Here's someone who had a launch issue. This may or may not help and there are a few other threads not too far down on the 1st page with people having such issues. Likely due to some change from a recent update.

I have the same problem. Can't launch fallout 3. Tried some fixes, but doesn't work.

If someone's game crashes on startup and they have an Intel graphics chipset, they should use the Intel Bypass Mod from NexusMOD. This has helped me in the best way.
