Doing some minor cheating by looking up stuff on the highwayman, and I'm just not finding anything specific about this - I find things that say the upgrades to the Highwayman increase the fuel efficiency (I have the first one), but can't find anything saying what the original fuel efficiency is?

I've got a batch of 50 Microfusion cells I got somehow early on, so I have a half tank as needed, but I'm iffy on zooming through the whole map without having some clue about how long it will go.

Also, can you get the grav plate upgrade in sandbox mode if your car was stolen in the main game? I've seen things explicitly saying no, but I've seen a lot of things implying it's fine and I'm a bit iffy on whether I should religiously keep my car safe in Reno, or it's a 'feh - it just means I have to pay more later' deal.

Playing on the Restoration project version if that's important.

Thanks - Jonnan

I'd get the thing that improve fuel efficiency installed as soon as you get the car, since you most likely picked it up before getting it. I never had any issue with the car running out of fuel, but then I didn't go aimlessly driving around either. Fuel cells become much more common as you go further into the game so it shouldn't be an issue - I don't think I ever had to actually buy extra energy cells even though I started using energy weapons in the later parts of the game (the cells I would find were more than enough).

Note that if your car does run out of fuel, you can leave it where it stops and continue on foot, then head back to it once you've found some more energy cells. The car effectively creates a new minor location if you ever leave it outside of an an existing area.

AFAIK with the RP you should be able to get the grav plates later - I think they're not available until the main plot's finished though? I also thought you couldn't access the place where you get the upgrade until after the car is stolen (but I could be wrong on that one).

Note that after your car is stolen it opens up a new area with minor side missions to get it back, and after that you can also buy more upgrades for it. So in a way getting your car stolen means more content, upgrades and experience.

I finished the game and I can confirm that (at least with Restoration Project) you can get the grav plates later even if you got the original upgrades in New Reno early on - I just saw a number of things indicating that if you let your car get stolen in the main game the grav plates weren't available later; at least post RP, not true.

And yeah, I was being overly concerned by the fuel mileage (although I'd still be curious about both that and just how much cubic feet everything in your trunk is supposed to take - Jet at least actually was able to give me a 'No more space' message, but I could happily store enough ammo to supply the Korean War); There were a couple fillups where I was running a little close, but I never ran out and by endgame I had 1,250 Microfusion cells in the trunk despite my main weapon being the Y42 'I will kill you and everyone you have ever loved' ash producing gun.

The thing with the trunk space is, is that there are actually TWO values associated with every item: weight (which is shown) and size (which is hidden).

Weight is used exclusively by your characters, so they're restricted to how much weight they can carry; however, for characters size is irrelevant.

The car is the opposite: weight is irrelevant, but space is a consideration.

Some items - such as most ammo - has weight but zero space, so you can stick unlimited ammo (except rockets and grenades) in your trunk. Other items (mainly keys and quest items like that) have zero weight but do actually take up space, while most items have both values.
