Hi,

I got Fallout NV today and it seems to be stuck with the following issue.

Clicking play in the launcher just reloads the launcher. If you keep clicking play it with reload the launcher another 3-5 times until even clicking the FalloutNVLauncher.exe or FalloutNV.exe doesn't do anything. Not even 'Run as Administrator' will work.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Fallout, tried getting rid of a program that, according to another forum may cause issues with Fallout NV (Gameranger apparently, but uninstalling that did nothing).

The only two other options I can think of is either with my OS or graphics card. I run Windows 10 Home and have a Nvidia GTX1070 graphics card.

I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall my OS or graphics card driver, but that's part of why I'm asking you guys in case you think I might have to.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can try this fix. It's fairly easy to do on the gog version https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/59451
Look on the PCGamingWiki page, maybe you'll find a solution there. Good luck!

Edit:
The forum is acting weird again on links.

I had exactly this same issue, and I tried everything from 'Running as Administrator', to compatibility settings, checking that the .ini files were not write-protected, ticking the 'Windowed Mode' box, changing to various resolutions, and even contemplated downloading some mods as suggested on various forums.

None of it worked. Which made no sense to me, because I had these games running under Steam without issue on this same PC with Windows 10.

I did, finally, find a solution, and I slapped myself for overlooking it. My antivirus program was blocking both FalloutNV.exe and FalloutNVLauncher.exe from accessing the game folder under my User settings. I white-listed both of these files in BitDefender and, ran the launcher again, let it detect settings, clicked Play and I was straight into the game.

Now, I'm not saying this will resolve your particular issue, because it may be due to a number of factors, but it certainly resolved mine. As I say, the symptoms were exactly as you described, forming an endless loop, but making a simple alteration in my antivirus fixed it for me. Hope this helps you or anyone else who has encountered this problem.
Thanks for all your help guys. Sorry for not getting back sooner but I found out after hours of research that my particular AntiVirus installed on my PC needs to be switched of COMPLETELY. Bitdefender Total Security is just a little bit too sensitive, it seems. Again, thank you all for you help with this.

Ah fair enough. I should've thought about the possibility of having to white-listing those files first. Ah well, thanks for your help StormHammer.

If nothing suggested above worked for you, as was the case for me, here's a solution:
Create a Windows account that doesn't have non-English characters in it and install the game there.
I know, it sounds stupid, but it was (and still is in some cases) a common issue with software back in the day.
