Hello all,

I have been fighting with FO3 from Steam on Windows 10 for a few days now, and I can't get the game to launch without crashing, despite following every guide I can find.
I have read that GOG's version of FO3 has some improvements here, so I wanted to find out what the general feeling was here on the GOG forums. Should I expect the GOG version to "just work" on Win10, or are there more success stories here than Steam? I'd be happy to drop $20 on GOG for the game again if it actually works, I just don't want to drop the money and end up in the same boat.

Thanks!

The GOG version works better than the Steam one, but you can still experience some issues. It has a few modifications (it includes 4 GB patch) and is stripped of all the DRM crap. Occasionally people post here that they have some trouble with running the game. But it's still a huge improvement in comparison to the problems with the original edition.
Those very same three (I think it was) fixes are such that you can apply them yourself as well.

Oh, except you need to do something about GfW-L, like circumventing it or installing the fake version or something.

I grabbed the GOG version, and it worked, but only after I grabbed the fallout.ini from the 4G mod you mentioned. I assume one of the many variables it sets is fixing the crash problem.

Just for fun I tried it on the Steam version and it fixed that as well.

Thanks!

I haven't bought it yet but it's nice to see it runs on your system. Could you check again for me after you've updated to 1909 and other versions in the future? (that's what I currently got here on this machine) and the Steam-version doesn't run or only runs for one quick session and then you cannot reload a savestate / savegame. That's crazy!
