First of all, I bought the game from GOG a few years ago and played it (under Windows 8.1), and it worked.
After manually downloading the three installation files in 2025 (Win 10), the problems began. The executable .exe file displayed an error message stating that the required bin file could not be found. It turned out that the bin files were incorrectly named; it was just a minor typo. I was able to fix that by renaming the bin files.
Second problem: The "Verify Files" option before installation didn't work. There was no progress after starting, the bar didn't move, and even the "Cancel" button was dead. Only "Skip" was possible, after which the actual installation started.
The launcher window appeared upon startup; everything seemed to be working fine. But every attempt to launch the game failed: after a few seconds of a black screen, I always landed back on the desktop. The same thing happened when I started the game directly from the game directory, bypassing the launcher.
I haven't tried any workarounds yet. I have some ideas, of course, but I'm too frustrated for now. So far, a disappointed, but not entirely hopeless, user and GOG supporter.
EDIT: I've removed the phrases that were created out of frustration. Sorry :-)
