I'm playing Fallout 2, and I got to the oil rig, and I'm trying to get through, but I have a little problem. First of all, I can only log on to the computer network if I have it search for the help file update first. I don't know if it's supposed to do that, so I thought I'd ask.
The real problem is security robots. I thought they weren't supposed to be attacking me. Yet I've noticed anything marked "Security Robot MK II" isn't hostile, but security robots with the other naming, (I can't remember it at the moment) are. The problem is, to get down to the reactor, I have to pass two hostile security robots. I can just run past them to go down, but I can't get past them going up. For one thing, I have only a few EMP grenades and a terrible throwing skill, and for another, they alert the whole level. I just can't stand against that. I tried using the presidential pass to activate the emergency defensive shutdown, but that doesn't work. So is there any way to get past the robots undetected? Or make them non-hostile?

your options are limited on the computer network if you have low intelligence and/or science skills, so that doesn't have anything to do with why you are being attacked.
are you in power armor? do you have more than one NPC with you? if you're not in power armor, you could be attacked. and if you have any number of NPCs with you, security bots will be openly hostile.
anyway, in that link there's a lengthy description about what will and what won't get you attacked at the enclave.

Thank you, that helped me find the problem. The reason they attacked was because I had K-9 with me. That didn't occur to me since no one else cared. So why do they attack me when everyone else ignored me? The world may never know.
Because they are probably programmed that way. They do not recognise it, they shoot it.
