Hello to all - I'm new here.
I recently stumbled upon the world of Fallout, and was instantly hooked. I started with Fallout 3 on PS3, like many people, which made me want to play through the originals as well. Though a little different, I'm enjoying Fallout 1 quite a bit so far.
I ran into a problem today, and I wasn't sure if I was missing something, or if there was a glitch... I took Ian with me to the radscorpion cave to do the quest. We killed all of the radscorpions, and what I couldn't hold of the tails, I put in his pack. After exploring the entire cave, I tried to exit by going back to where I started from (the light area leading outside), but I could never get the map to initiate (no dark areas were on the ground to walk to), or any kind of dialogue that would trigger being able to leave the cave. My version is patched as suggested in the "Fallout 1 FAQ" thread on this board here:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/Fallout_Series/fallout_1_faq
As I said, I'm new to the game, and still learning my way around the controls and everything, so am I missing something obvious as a way to leave, or is this actually a glitch, and the entrance should also be the exit, loading the map?
Thanks in advance for any help.

This question / problem has been solved by JudasIscariotimage
I did some more searching on the forum and ran across this thread:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/Fallout_Series/fallout_from_gog_com_high_resolution_pack_problem/_/1/search/cave
which helped me to solve my problem. Apparently resetting the values of the cave edges in the fi_ini file and removing the ddraw.dll were what corrected the problem.

Maybe it was a one-time glitch. Have you tried saving then quitting and then reloading the game??

Thanks a lot for the help, Judas! I actually figured out the problem with some help from another thread I found (see my second reply in this thread for a link). Apparently the high res patch had some bad values for the edges of the cave, and the ddraw.dll may have also interfered. After those tweaks, it allowed me to leave.

Haha. Cool deal. Glad to see you could find the answer. I'm going to make a sticky solutions thread for this game. Maybe you would care to post your solution as it is of a technical nature.
