Hey guys, quick Q that google didn't answer for me:
When I loaded up my save game to play again, I noticed that doing called shots with my SMG does a little "beep", almost like a notice/warning/error. It seems that I rarely hit with them anymore.
Doing regular shots doesn't produce said beep.
Just wondering if anyone knows what it means? When I was doing called shots beforehand, it wasn't making this noise and it felt like I was hitting way more than I do now.
Hopefully I explained myself properly there :)
Cheers,
SM

Assuming that what your "beep" sounds like is a high-pitched "ding!" noise with a slight echo-ey or static-y quality, then called shots are supposed to make that sound. The accuracy of a called shot is dependent on your skill with a weapon, the type of weapon, the range at which you fire, the lighting conditions under which you fire, and what part of the target you're aiming at.
ah yes it's a tiny "be-beep" - a high pitched double sound like an echo. Note that it doesn't sound like "beep" but I can't write the sound... not a "ding" either. Perhaps an "ee-eeh". Hehe.
I just say I felt like I was missing cause I was doing 65% called shots and missing a lot :)
cheers!

If you're missing a lot on 65% odds, maybe you should raise your Luck score a bit. Or you're just unlucky in real life. Anyway, I think the real lesson to take away from this is that onomatopaeia is hard.
Hard to pronounce and to type - like Chrysanthemum :)
My char's luck is 6 atm - going for "Better Criticals" later for uber damage called shots to the eye.
Thanks for the replies mate, appreciated.
Well, I finished the game the other day.
<mild spoilers>
Energy weapons + better criticals + turbo plasma rifle (modified) is just ownage.
Had a decent stealth so I could generally walk up to someone and do 2 calls shots to their "soft areas" (yes I was playing a female character).
Damn good game, second time around, years later.

Nonono, if you're gonna do that, you should be unarmed. 'Cause kicking 'em in da jewels is such fun! (also playing a female character, one-handed unarmed w/ better crits . . . who needs 'nades when you can wade into a group and KO 4 guys in a round? :-D ) I just wish there were a power boot or something, 'cause in addition to being that being an amusing concept, the kick animation is more awesome. If there were one I'd probably use it even if it caused less damage than the power fist. (I smack 'em in the nether regions often enough for humor, and those are strictly inferior to headshots . . .)
Oh right - could the beep be your weapon sound accidentally playing at double frequency? Don't think it's happened to me yet in this game, but I have definitely run into that in others, where one particular sound effect starts playing at double (or more) speed every/most of the time it comes up (sometimes only in particular circumstances, e.g. called shots).
rapid-fire shots sounds can easily end up sounding like a buzz, or if really sped up, a beep.
