So like a lot of people, I grabbed the free Fallout stuff today and while both Fallout 1 and Tactics have no issues at all on my Win 7 machine, Fallout 2 keeps producing the same oh-so-informative error (topic title). I have tried:

1. Uninstall/reinstall (worked briefly when launching the game from the installer, fails to work on subsequent launches using the game shortcut)
2. Re-download the installer and try again (again, game works when launched from the installer, but then never again)
3. Install unofficial patches (no change at all)
4. Multiple reboots, killing of AV and other background apps, several different compatibility settings (no change at all)
5. Searching this forum for alternate solutions (not really possible, the way the site is bogging down)

Anybody got any bright ideas on how to fix this one?

EDIT - Nevermind, I fixed it. Apparently the "run as administrator" setting on fallout2.exe is not enough, you also have to do that to the GOGLauncher.exe or the game's shortcut, then it will work fine. GOG really should update their installer to do that for us.

Thanks cogadh, it worked for me too. Before reading this I tried to launch the game from fallout2.exe on the game folder and it run, but the graphics -the colours- were wrong.
