Well, I've played a fair share of Roleplaying games, not a huge player, I will admit... but I digress.
Fallout 2, I remember, as I started the game the first time, was a long corridor where I did some standard stuff like picking locks and killing huge radiated scorpions. "Is this it" I asked myself, and a few minutes later I got the answer.
BOOM! I was shook out into a hostile and unpleasant dystopical post-apocalyptic world in a society that's barely gone from bottled caps to real money, in the hunt for the suitcase-gizmo that would save my little village.
And wow, is this game huge! Not huge per size, mind you. You'll probably see more buildings in Grand Theft Auto, but the replayable value, for instance, is ingenious. Your stats determine more or less anything that can be done in the game. Is your intelligence too low? Too bad, you might miss a quest or five. Your lockpick skill? Too bad, you might have to figure out an alternative way to open this door. Also, just for the pure sake fun of it, try setting your intelligence below four. True to life? Fairly!
The story is rather simplistic, at least at first. "Get a suitcase!" It's all the side-quests, friends and enemies that you make along your way that make this game the epic experience that it is. Why not become a mobster and side with one of the gangs in New Reno? Will you save or destroy the Gecko Power Plant? Ever considered a porn career? Boxing career?
Or maybe you just want to become a ruthless childkiller and get bounty hunters after you?
At first it is not so apparent, but the choices you make along your travels will determine the very future of the towns and villages in the Fallout world.
This game is an insane two thumbs up! It can be replayed to death before figuring out all the secrets, and getting your hands on a better, stronger and even more automatic gun is heartshufling at it's mildest!
