I'm on Windows 7 64bit with 8 gigs of ram

Randomly, sometimes when I start up the game. Sometimes when I load a game. Sometimes if I load a new area. Sometimes it doesn't do it at all.

But randomly, I get "The memory could not be written" and the game crashes to the desktop.

Is there any fix for this or what could cause it? I didn't save the game in programs files, but my custom games folder.

(edit)

I have also tried running the game in and not in admin mode...still same problem

Oh I forgot to add this...

This is for Fallout 2
Sadly, this is a game breaking problem.

Either I need to fix this, or get a refund from GOG. 50% of the time that I load a new area, I get memory can't be written. About 5% it can't be read, so that is really rare.

I usually have to try 2 or 3 times to start up Fallout 2 and 2 times to load a save...but I can live with that.

But I don't want to save every single time before I load a new area...makes the game kind of easy just saving all the time. But maybe thats just me. But my game crashes SO much. It really ruins it. And I did a heavy google search and found one other person with the problem...but no one responded to him.
Right I'm not a master of tech or extremely knowledgeable about these old games but I did get these for a small period where I had good odds of getting a similar error. I Just loaded a older save which worked out fine for me.

Assuming that's not a option and no-one on the forum comes up with a simple revelation remember you can put in a ticket to GOG tech support. They normally don't take that long and have helped me before.
Uhh.. I have a hazy recollection of something like this. It was due to some background program but I have no idea what it could have been. Maybe virus scanner or firewall doing something specific.
I also have this problem but it prevents me from opening up the game. I figured it had to do with the resolution patch as the trouble started after I stupidly tried to push it to 1920x1200. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still get the issue.
I'll try support and see what they say. I would love to be able to play, just can't when it crashes 50% of the time.
Nothing from support yet. I assume they email you?

Or maybe someone else may have had the same problem and fixed it...so back to the top this goes
I had a similar problem on Win98 (I think) when the game first came out. I had to reinstall the game. I hope you'll manage to do find a solution without such drastic measures. You could try starting back from an earlier save point. Maybe it'll fix this glitch.
This has been happening from when I first got the game, not save related.

Support tested various things that could cause it, but they said they didn't run into the problem I had. And they suggested turning off firewall/virus scanner (which I did), but that didn't work. The only thing I haven't done was turn off user account control, but I need that on.

Maybe I'll try reinstalling...
I'm having the same issue...reinstalling both the game AND Windows won't help. It's certainly not a driver issue either.

What I recommend is:
Install the unofficial patch 1.3.5, do NOT record your gameplay (causes it even more) and save often.

NOTE: this issue doesn't seem to exist in the original Interplay release I have (version 1.0) if that's of any help, but that version is incompatible with any screen recorders, so I think it may be a DirectDraw related issue.
