Okay, since Google is returning nothing for this, I can only assume I'm being idiotic in some way.

That said - Two/Three days into my fallout run The Brotherhood of Steel Elevators are driving me out of my mind - I click the door, then painstackingly try to find the one spot to right-click and move to in order to get the panel before the door closes.

Usually unsuccessfully.

I'm hoping maybe as I get used to it I'll be able to find the right spot more quickly, but I have the niggling feeling I *have* to be missing something obvious - This could not intentionally have been designed this way, I just stumbled across the stupidest possible way of doing this and am the only person in the world that never noticed something obvious.

Anything obvious I'm missing?

Thanks

I don't remember now, but quite possibly they might have. Do you play on increased speed?
Anyway, you can enter combat to have the time to find the proper hex.

Well, it's mostly bad on the first level where the elevator floor is obscured by something. Additionally after awhile the elevators seemed to only close intermittently so you can select the right spot without being on the timer, so that's cool.

I beat the game (I err, yeah once you Science that Nuke, you're committed it turns out. Oops. Tried to tell that spy 'Time to go' and in my head canon obviously she did, but I was surprised the scripts didn't allow for it) and basically got used to it - after awhile I was always going in on level 2 to store stuff and was only on level one when I was leaving, so basically never had to worry about it unless I forgot something, so it wasn't as insanely frustrating as I thought it was going to be at the beginning.
