The problem with the "untouched" Falcon 4.0, as it's been provided by GOG, is that it's still a buggy and choppy mess. BMS solves all these problems. If you seriously want to try and learn one of the most realistic - and rewarding - fighter jet sims you might find this information useful.
DOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION OF BMS 4.32 mod (you will need the Falcon 4.0.exe provided by GOG).
Here you can find a video illustrating how to set up the simulation and install the mod, step by step.

If you're new to the sim, or to the sims in general, know this: If you think that, once you've got BMS running and your joystick ready, that the game will allow you to just take off and start shooting down enemies, you're sorely mistaken. A long study awaits and what's worse, the process of learning the BMS is really painful and frustrating.
The reason for this is that the original Falcon 4.0 manuals are already outdated by all the additions BMS made. In practice you should start reading those original manuals (100+ pages) and everytime you'll find a discrepancy between what the manual tells you and what you see in the game, it will be time to open the BMS MANUALS and track down the changes done by the modding team. It's hell, it's frustrating and chances are you'll drop the best flight sim ever made because of that.
BUT LUCKILY FOR US, there's a great guy in the BMS community, named Krause, who made over 4 hours of video tutorials explaining almost all the procedures required for you to start enjoying the game. The information is always correct in those videos and Krause is a great flight instructor, if I may say so :) With his aid you will be up in the air the same day you installed the game ;)
You will still need the manual in order to check details that Krause missed but 1) you will know what to look for, and 2) it will be a much more pleasant experience than wading through tonnes of information without knowing what is still valid and what is outdated (like I did before I discovered Krause' videos) :)

INSTALLATION INFO:
1. GOG version of Falcon 4.0 is compatible with BMS.
2. You don't need to install Falcon 4.0 before installing BMS. You can start with the installation of BMS immediately, all that is required is Falcon4.0.exe which the mod will be looking for. The best thing to do is to create a folder for BMS before its installation and put the EXE in it, then proceed with the install.
Good reading, watching, and hopefully, hunting!
