I've got the same error.
Intrestingly I tried to install the orignal Fahrenheit and that game works. Maybe the remaster is broken?

You take the original game, make it worse, and then stop the original game that's better from being sold so that you can force people to pay a much higher price for the inferior replacement.

You could also tell people that if they buy the remaster they will then be allowed to have the original free, and that if they already own the original, they can have the remaster free.

Isn't that how remasters work? :)

I don't have the same kind of error that the OP had, but I still have one none the less. When I start the remastered version, as soon as I choose the language the game crashes. When I start again the language selection screen is blank, and when I alt+tab, I see this error message (attached).

When I try to start the game, the language defaults to french, and whenever I try to change the game settings, they're never saved. So I have to set them each time I launch.

So in short the the remaster is a broken mess, and only the original version seems to work. Any fixes for the remaster are welcome. I'll try to experiment/search on my own, and if I get it working I'll post here.

Edit: Just went through the Steam forum on the game. Turns out the exact problem was happening in 2015, and it still hasn't been solved. I tried one suggestion, turning off MSI Afterburner, but nothing changed.

What I did was installed both my gog and the steam release, the steam release installed some visual c++ 2005 redistributable, then I uninstalled the steam one and the gog one now works for me.

You need to install the MFC package from Microsoft's web site. Because it's old, it's not included in modern Windows OS: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347

You want the x86 version which will be called: vcredist_x86.exe

Download, install, and reboot your PC. Should be working after that.
