I'm seriously considering buying this game but I played a friend's old PC version of this game and the controls...well, left something to be desired.

In the version here on GOG, are the controls any better and if not, can I use an Xbox 360 controller to control the game instead (assuming I can connect a controller to my PC)? This probably won't be too much of a deal-breaker for me because I think this game looks amazing but it would be nice to be able to use controls that are slightly less challenging.

Thanks!

I can't switch from keyboard/mouse to anything else in option menu, but maybe that's because I don't have controller plugged in?

Th problem IMO is not really in controls, but in the camera. That's the real problem. I don't know if the controller would help. But I read somewhere that QTEs are really problem on the controller, you have to push the analog sticks in the right direction, really fast.

But, it is playable, even thou in few cases it's frustrating. I personally believe that it is a great game and everybody should play it. If for nothing else, then for the amazing atmosphere for sure. (I finished it for the first time just few days ago)
you can attach a controller (mines not xbox mind you but I'm sure it will work) and IMO it is how the game was meant to be played. Not only does the camera control much better the QTE's feel very intuitive and not so clunky and painful, very very worthwhile.
Game works only with direct-input pads, so xbox 360 one does not work here. I have 2 pads (xbox360 and lt f710) so in order to play with f710 one I had to unplug xbox pad.

Playing with pad for a most part is easier than with keyboard/mouse with one exception. L-R QTEs is easier to go through if using left-right arrows on the keyboard. Much easier.
