Is it just me or are others finding it difficult to fly? My ship wobbles about so much, is so sensitive, that I almost become seasick. Admittedly I’ve only just started and had this experience in the tutorial but it doesn’t bode well for the game proper. Is there a way of damping down the flight controls to make them less sensitive?

I've just tried again with the same result, it definitely has something to do with the mouse control. If I so much as touch the mouse a little cyan arrow appears near the crosshairs and when that's there the ship is uncontrollable. If I Pause the game and then un-pause it the arrow disappears and the ship can be controlled with the WASD keys.
What's the arrow all about?

It's been said that the controls are similar to Everspace but to me, who's been playing Everspace for years, in it's current state it's nothing like Everspace.

Hi Sikm,

Here are a few things you might want to test.
You can find all options except 'View Deadzone' in:
Main Menu > Settings > Input > Mouse & Keyboard

(1) Reduce 'Mouse Sensitivity' (only if option 'Mouse Position' is 'Software')
FYI: By default the engine is calculating the cursor position by adding up deltas received from the actual hardware ('Software').
The option 'System' sets the game to use the absolute cursor position on screen calculated by your OS.

(2) Set 'Mouse Position' to 'System'

(3) Set Crosshair Behavior to 'Centered' and 'Centered Crosshair Mouse Radius' to '1.00'.
You are probably using 'Centered' at the moment. Some people are having problems with the classical Everspace controls 'Floating' and our usual advice would be to use Centered, BUT if you played ES1 you are probably used to Floating.

(4) Increase Deadzone. Activate 'ShowMouseDeadzone' from 'Main Menu Settings > Gameplay'

(5) Toggle Display mode from 'Fullscreen' to 'Windowed', or vice versa depending on what you are currently using.
This could help if capturing the mouse position is somehow not working.

(6) Check Framerate. A low frame rate kann make the game feel sluggish, even without stuttering and you will tend to overshoot with your inputs. We have not integrated the GOG API yet, so you might need a thrid party FPS counter :( You can also just go ingame and fire some shots (skip tutorial). They should appear instantaneous.

If none of this helped please let me know.

Best regards,
Ingmar

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I tried all those changes except for framerate; the game doesn't feel at all sluggish.
Sadly even after all those changes I still can't manage to control the mouse.
In the demo I can just about manage to get around by using WASD but once I need to start shooting and start using the mouse then the whole ship sways in the direction of the mouse arrow.
I went back in and reduced the mouse sensitivity to .05 and then I could stagger around with some semblance of control but nowhere near enough.
I guess I'm just going to have to put the game on hold, I certainly can't play it as is.
Sorry to hear that this didn't help :(

Just making sure I understood this correctly: You have been playing the ES2 demo (that was free on Steam) before you bought ES2 via GOG? Or did you back the game on Kickstarter and participated in the alpha program and switched from Steam to GOG, when the game released in early access?

If you played either the demo or the alpha, my next question would be if the controls were broken right from the beginning (in the demo/alpha version)?
Or did you maybe remap some controls and it broke afterwards?

Anyways: You might want to got to:
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\ES2\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\
and delete the Input.ini. The Demo and the current version share the same location for their data.
So if there is some broken config from an early version it is totally possible that it messes up your current version.

To be absolutely save there, you could also make a backup copy of the ES2 folder from AppData and delete the original one; Restart the game and check if this changed anything.

If the problem still persists, it is very likely something that is very specific to your setup.
In that case we would appreciate if you could share some infos about your setup like:
Which peripherals you are using (KB+M, Flightsicks, Drawingboards, touchscreen monitors) and their models.
Also if you are using any kind of additional software e.g. Macros to perform rapid inputs or similar.

If you find the time to capture a short video of the ingame behavior, that would be helpful too.
But don't feel compelled to do so. Just in case I'll share a link to a cloud folder where you can upload your footage (See direct messages).
EDIT: Scrap that! Can't send msgs without being on the firends list. I misclicked there. Please just ignore my request and send any footage at ingmar@rockfishgames.com if the file isn't too big.

Thanks for being understanding that this is EA access!!

Best regards,
Ingmar
