Any news on the Linux version of the game?
Last thing Iv heard, the plan was to release the linux version by the end of september.
I second the question. Do developers read these forums by the way?

latest news on the topic i found on steam was like (not exact citation):
"we're working hard on linux port but there're still lots of issues and it's in unreleaseable state"
and
"we plan to provide linux version on gog too but connot promise it as gog integration might case more problems"
it was in the middle of november...

Ye I know, I dont think there will be any trubble for them to put it on gog once the shader problems are fixed.
Seems like thats the main cause for the delay. But Linux version will probably show up on Steam first, then if everything is fine the GoG version usualy comes 1 - 2 weeks after steam.

I'm not using Steam, so developers are welcome to come here ;)
update from developers on other forum:

Small (negative) update: We've migrated to Unreal Engine 4.16 (mainly for better joystick support and quite a few bug fixes) - however, this caused even more problems on Linux - so it seems we've taken a few steps back. It's going very slow.
It's going slow and we ran into more problems than before after migrating to Unreal Engine 4.16. Don't get your hopes up high, you'll be needing a lot of patience
Apparently a linux beta for nvidia cards is out now (some AMD user with latest drivers got it to run too, apparently), but not for us (Steam only ?).

I feel a bit burned after buying this here in good faith some months ago while reading they plan on having linux support, I guess no tux no money policy is the only way to go in the future...
Now it is available on humblebundle with a discount with gog and a steam key, double burn for me !
Unfortunately gog connect doesn't work the other way around (-> steam) :)

gog has early access , but no way of beta participation as it seems, I am still waiting on some updates to other games linux versions as well.
So it seems Everspace for Linux is out on Steam. Though not "official" it seems to work just fine now. When will it come to GOG?

Hey there! We're still having some issues with some AMD card holders (in combination with VLC) and haven't really tested the game much yet for Linux, which is why we're still treating it as a beta version on Steam. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a Beta stream on GoG, so we can't release it here yet. We're looking into these AMD issues and hope they will be resolved with the next engine update, so that we can release it here within the next months.

Hi baci.
Thanks for the reply and great to know that you are looking into this. I found this thread, which is probably what you refer to: https://forum.everspace-game.com/discussion/1283/bug-everspace-startup-crashes-vlc
Honestly, this is a bug I could live with.

I am an AMD user (RX 560) and have a similar issue with Crashlands and fullscreen youtube videos. Either one freezes.
I've tried to run Crashlands and VLC (2.2.6) at the same time but did not experience this issue.
This may or may not be the same bug.

Let me know if I can help you debug this.

Edit: I realized that the bug report I linked to was actually posted by a Windows user, which makes this bug even weirder.

Hi!

Thanks for replying. The game is reported to work well with latest Mesa and llvm 5.0, so you don't need to wait for the engine update, but updating the engine would be welcome, especially if you'll use Vulkan for better performance.

Regarding beta releases, GOG have in development games here, and actually Everspace itself was in-development here for a while. But what GOG don't have now is ability to set in development status to different versions of the game. I.e. it could have "release" status for Windows, and "in-development" for Linux for example.

Having such feature here could be quite helpful for Linux users, since it's Linux versions that mostly end up in such situation unfortunately.
Any ETA on release here in gog.com? It seems (according to the comments in Steam) it is still in beta there, alhough most (?) issues have been resolved?

I'd prefer gog.com release over Steam!
Thanks for this cool game!

I bought the game hoping to get the Linux version... actually I played the game (windows version) and enjoyed it a lot... I have no other purpose to keep windows, so I think I will buy the extension - Encounters ONLY if the Linux version come out...
I think technically it would need to work on stock Ubuntu 16.04 since this is what steam and gog support. From what I see even 18.04 will be using llvm 3.7, according to https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=bionic&section=all&arch=any&keywords=llvm&searchon=names.

So I hope Everspace will either work with llvm 3.5/3.7 or be released for Linux without official AMD support.
Otherwise we'll have to wait another two years or however long it takes ubuntu to update llvm.

Use a rolling distro if you want newer llvm.
