By default weapon overdrive seems to be the default option for the 'R' key. How do I select shield as the default device?
On general gameplay, do you always end up in 'galaxy' 1 every time you get killed??
On 'consumables' all those crystals, gas, plasma etc are they any use apart from upgading weapons etc, as most 'traders' seem more intent on you buying supplies from them, rather than you selling to them?
Any general hints on gameplay also appreciated!!
Overall, it seems to me that over a period of time you improve your spaceship so that eventually you can complete a run. Downsides each incremental increase in weapons, devices, etc seems to get more expensive, and of course you lose your credits each time you get killed :-(
I see Everspace 2 will be coming out soon, any thoughts?

Hey there!
You can switch between Active Devices by pressing 3, and use them with R. Shields are passive devices however, which means they're active permanently as long as they are equipped (and functional).
Yes, you'll always start at sector 1 again if you're killed. The core gameplay loop of Everspace evolves around improving your ship with the credits and experience gained after each death, and gradually getting better each run - similar to a Rogue-Like.
Resources such as Crystals are mainly for crafting, you'll need them in later sectors :)

Note that Everspace 2 will not be a rogue-like, but an open world action RPG set in the same universe, with the same kind of combat and controls.
