I had a great time playing Europa Universalis II several years ago, and would like to play III now. Has anyone had success running the GOG installers for this game on Linux through Wine? I see from WineHQ that the game itself should run fine provided I'm able to get it installed.
iirc, the game is very portable and can be moved on a USB key, which means if you can't run the install via Wine, you still can copy the installation directory from a Windows system to Linux just fine.
It runs in Wine, although with a few bugs and occasional crashes.

Which Wine version did you use? Perhaps Wine 1.9 will run the game better?
Is there already 1.9? I tried it with 1.7.55, it is definitely playable, though it crashes during tutorial and crashed once with me during a normal play. Hopefully with newer versions of WINE it is completely free from any issues.

Yes, see the main page for winehq.org.

I did this, but to get it to work you also need to find and copy these windows system files into the game directory, or it won't work:

d3dx9_36.dll
d3dxof.dll
msvcp60.dll

I copied it from the USB to a folder on the desktop in Linux (I use MX Linux). Then I installed Lutris and added it to the game library there. Disable both 'DXVK/VKD3D' and 'Prefer System Libraries' in the game configure applet.

The game runs fine - visually and sound-wise, but the music doesn't play. This issue is also present in Victoria 2, Sengoku and Rome Gold.
