I can't find any options to change video settings, either in the GOG install folder or in-game. Is it supposed to run at a fixed resolution?

EU2 had a separate config utility (called EU2_Settings.exe) where you could pick from a few options. Never had EU1, though, so I don't know if it had that. Either way, it's unlikely it had it in-game.

See if you have a file settings.cfg that you can text-edit. If it doesn't help, you may need to hex-edit your exe;

There are several cfg files in the game folder, but none of them seem to relate to the gui or graphical options. I wouldn't go as far as hex-editing the game files; the game is perfectly fine as it is, but I wanted to know if there were more resolutions available.

Thanks anyway.
Windowed mode would be great. I was hoping to leave this on slow and run it on my other monitor while I did things.

Don't have this particular binary, but see if this helps:

Back up your exe, then open it in a hex editor and find a fragment like 05 f0 61 64 00 00 00 00 00 8b 4d 08 89. May be somewhere about 3/4 of the way down. Change the second 00 to 01, something like 05 f0 61 64 00 01 00 00 00 8b 4d 08 89.

If you can't find such a fragment, trim down some of the sides and try again. I think that single bit should make the difference.

If it works, you'll need to set 16-bit colour compatibility to the file, else it will just spit out an error.

I gave up trying to run it in a window, I found it best just to setup a VM to run this series of games, EU1, CK1, VC1, HOI1.
I had some resolution problems , the EU2_Settings.exe was giving me an empty box and nothing to choose from.
Uninstall/reinstall did not fix it. I deleted the settings.cfg and did a ' Verify/Repair ':
The ( default) settings.cfg file looked like this:

0
0
0
"SCREEN_SIZE_X 800"
"SCREEN_SIZE_Y 600"
"MUSIC_ON"
"europa.valkyrienet.com"

I changed the resolution to
"SCREEN_SIZE_X 1024"
"SCREEN_SIZE_Y 786"

There is higher resolution, which was too high and the fonts were too tiny - which is how I got into problems in the 1st place. I forgotten what that was, so I guess you'll have to trail-and-error if you want a different resolution.
