Yes, everyone said it's difficult, and for sure I am neither a big fan of nor very skilled in deck building games, but hey, I've played many strategy games, most even with some success, and I particularly love turn based strategy.
So I though let's give it a spin, starting with the first game...

As a first for me, I failed to complete the tutorial - on medium difficulty! OK, so maybe I just have to realize I suck at strategy games, so I lowered to easiest setting - still couldn't beat the first mission after turorial.

But my problem here is not just the level of difficulty, it's the kind. There seems to be very little actual strategy involved. People praise it for being a deck building game, but I didn't find it. My heroes have a fixed deck, I found no "building". So the only determiner of success or failure is the order in which the cards appear, which is obviously totally outside my control. If they come out one way I win - another way I loose. Like "draw some cards, and see how many hearts you get in a row". Above set "difficulty" limit you win, otherwise you loose. Sure, its' a challenge, but it's not my idea of fun.
I know, most games actually have some kind of "luck of the draw" (or "RNG") mechanics, but the games I enjoy manage to hide it, giving me the feeling that I can at least influence my chance of success by playing in a clever way.
This game appears to fail to do so. As a result even the victories feel not very satisfying. I don't get the feeling of having won by being cunning, clever or good, I get only the feeling of having made a lucky draw. To me, there is a huge difference between the two.

So comparing my experience with all the praise and positive reviews, I wonder whether I am overlooking some gameplay features or aspects, or people actually enjoy playing "draw hearts"?
Yes, first 2-3 levels of each campaign are like this. It gets much better in later levels where you actually get to the deckbuilding part from multiple shops.

I had a very similar experience. Couldn't get past a battle on level 2 until I got lucky with the draw. But I'm very happy I stuck with it; once you get past the beginning it was a great game.
