Here is a handy hint I want to share in case anybody is finding the game too hard.

Learn the unarmed combat skill with just one skill point necessary and you can bash open almost any door or chest in the game without harming yourself or needing a weapon. This saves a lot of money buying or repairing weapons and means you don't need to learn the lock pick skill either so you can invest the points in something else. Sometimes a tough door will require a bit of patience to get through but it is worth it as I have amassed all sorts of valuable loot and gear by doing this.

The only disadvantage compared to picking the lock is that it is noisy and so somebody may be alerted to you stealing but this has only been a problem to me once so far after 12 hours of game time so the benefits by far outweigh the limitations.

I second this post, even if you don't specialize in unarmed, 1 point is very useful.
Yeah, this is really more of a loophole or exploit than an intelligent feature imo, but I've been specializing in unarmed anyway. They really should have some sort of threshold to overcome for being able to do any damage at all depending on the make of box/door.

I haven't tried this, but that's because I'd rather spend my precious skill points elsewhere. Three points just to open chests seems a terrible waste to me. You can easily load up on clubs and other dirt cheap items that cost only a few coins each. Further, Fire Dart is also useful for this, and if you get your skill up, you can destroy containers much faster than you can with weapons.

Indeed but if the difficulty is curved or unfair you've got to take everything to your advantage, that's what I do anyway. I also specalized in unarmed, never done that before in an RPG and it turns out it's going pretty OK.
This is an awesome idea and I am totally stealing it.

Yeah, you usually don't know whether "unaramed strike" in a game is viable or just a noob trap until you try it. In this case, the 4x damage guaranteed hit feat seems to make up for lost weapon damage. Or maybe it's because the damage and to-hit scale with the same stat? Anyway, it's cool that they made it viable this time around.

An unarmed character in book 2 can out damage even a dagger/piercing build where you get 2 strikes per attack. The reason why is that 1-It always hits, and 2-does four times your damage which even though you lose out on a weapon damage, is still insane. Ive heard of nefarious and cheap tactics against a certain 10 foot tall beast that can be hit with unarmed strikes and killed with 5 hits from successive retreating. That and the fact that it would take normal weapon users 5 times that amount of hits to kill him.

Yeah I would say that someone that works for basilisk games practices muay thai or something.
I finally have a character I think I'll finish the game with (Book 1): A pure mage. Fire Dart at level 3 seems to do fine for breaking down doors, barrels, and chests. If I make a melee character after I'll definitely use this trick.
Hi. Can someone advise me on how you actually attack objects, please? I need to break down a door in Blackwater and because I don't have LP skills will need to break it down. I have unarmed combat skill. I just need to know how to actually initiate it. Thanks.

Hold shift and click the door (or any other object) until it breaks.
