It is well known that 16-bit Windows programs will not run on 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, 7, or 8. I thought this game was designed for Windows 3.1.

Either I'm mistaken, and the game does include a 32-bit version and always has, or GOG has applied some truly astounding technical wizardry and we may yet see more 16-bit Windows games in the future. Which is it?
I think there was also a Win95 version; I assume that's what GOG got their hands on.

Check out thi image (lower right part) It says that the game is both, Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 compatible. I'm not sure whether it was always like that but at least my copy of the game contains both versions. To make it run at Win 7 I just had to play a bit with compatibility settings. I guess GOG did the same.
Well, I guess that's pretty definitive. Thank you.
I do own an original copy of the game and played it back then on a win95 system. Trouble with the original version is that it has trouble with modern memory, thus won't run. I'm so grateful for the gog version to finally be able to play the game again.
