Okay ... it is an issue with admin/non-admin control. If run with "run as" from a normal account, it won't recognize the compatibility selection. Thus you have to start it once from a full admin account, to be able to start it with "run as" from a restricted account.
(I noticed that the game looks somewhat unpolished ...)
