QWEEDDYZ: set proper resolution, that your display 100% support. Not sure, but i think that game do not support widescreen. So even normal 1024x768 reccomend FullHD monitor. For higher resolution FHD - required.
Set "Keep aspect ratio" in video driver.
Natea42: My problem is that I cannot set the resolution from inside the game. Is there anyway to set the resolution from outside the game?
P.S. If is reset it in compatability mode then I cannot move my cursor. When I do the fix for the curse the resolution goes back to being wrong.
So, I've made a
GOG account
just to post my experience regarding this question. I know it's been over two years since it was originally posted, but in case anyone else ever looks back at this thread...
When I launched the game for the first time in years on my Windows 10 PC this evening, I too tried fiddling with the resolution. When I hit Apply/Confirm/OK (can't remember what it actually says on the button), my game crashed, but Windows produced a message saying Compatability settings had been adjusted to avoid the same thing happening again etc. No drama so far...
Then when I reloaded the game, I too had the issue as described above: new resolution cut some of the display off the right and bottom of the window. This meant I could access the
Game Settings, see the list of res options to revert, but could
NOT see the OK button to actually apply any changes I made. I was annoyed at this point because it was working fine before I got greedy, wanting higher res and/or wider aspect ratio. -.-
I found this thread but it didn't really help me. So here's what I did to fix it, not claiming it's perfect:
> Right-clicked application; Properties; Compatibility tab; ticked "
Run in 640x480 screen resolution", hit
Apply.
> Launched game and found cursor didn't move (as mentioned above). One thing to notice here is that your actual pointer
is moving, it's just that the in-game hand isn't tracking along with it. That is, you can still click things if you manage to place your invisible cursor on them.
> Frankly, I found the invisble cursor quite amusing, and by randomly clicking around the screen and using the corners to "calibrate" my mouse movements, I managed to change the screen resolution back to 1024x768 (16 bit) in the
Game Settings menu. I suppose I could have tried the fix for the frozen cursor (included as footnote if anyone doesn't know it), although Natea42 says that when they tried this, the screen cutting-off returned, and then one is back to square 2 (sqaure 1 is not messing with the resolution settings at all...!). I don't know whether by "PS. ... reset it [res] in compatability mode" Natea42 was ticking the same box as me, or not.
> Whether you run at 640x480 and also unfreeze the cursor, or whether these options are mutually exclusive, I cannot confirm. In the former case, you'd simply reset your res settings in-game, exit, and then revert compatibility settings back to how they were before this debacle (drop "
Run in 680x480" etc.); in the latter case, with some patience, you
can still revert the resolution eventually - I reckon it took me five minutes - so, tolerable.
This game is a childhood throwback for me too, so I'm glad that I managed to get it working. I've just come off after 3 hours; I'm locked in a stalemate with the Russians! Good fun. :D
Hope this helps someone, somewhere, in the future. :)

------------
If the cursor in-game is frozen / stuck / won't move, don't fret.
> Right-click application; Properties; Compatibility tab; "Change high DPI settings".
> Under "High DPI scaling override", check "Override high DPI scaling behaviour."
> From the "Scaling performed by:" dropdown, select "System (Enhanced)".
> "OK"; "Apply".
> Launch game and cursor should be moving like normal again. I've heard anecdotal evidence that some players have to do this before every time they launch the game; even if that's the case, it's not too laborious, so hopefully tolerable. :)

That's everything. Au revoir!
