A couple years after WIN10 has come out and the only thing players have to work with are about a dozen different hoops to jump through that may or may not work. Will we ever get someone at GOG (or whomever is responsible) to issue/replace the downloadable OFFICIAL version of EE1 on GOG Galaxy?

What isn't working? My copy is working fine on win 10.

I know others that can't get it running. However, for myself it is the graphics that causes it to freeze. I would include an image but the forum won't let me upload.

I kept wondering if it has something to do with 32 vs 16 graphic, but neither seemed to do the trick. I tried this on the AoC version, since that was my favorite but everything would just freeze up when I would do just about anything.

The map/landscape would look patchy with colored tiles appearing everywhere too.

I have no settings like that.

Have you tried the neo--ee patch? I always use it and have used it for years. Perhaps the fix is in the neo-ee patch. I use the patch for multiplayer compatibility (it restores the server list) but I know it does much more than that. Perhaps there are compatibility tweaks.

https://www.neoee.net/

I have two shortcuts and I think they both work. One has nothing in compatibility and the other only has "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: Application and Run as Admin.

Also, there's a legacy direct x mode or something in Windows 10. I can't find it for the life of me. But I know I had to check that. If that makes sense to you and you've done it, then I'll stop looking for it. If you know you haven't done it, I'll keep looking.

Thanks. I will use this and see. Will it work the gog.com version too? That is what I was worried about because I think I saw this elsewhere.

If you don't mind looking up that other thing that would be great. No rush btw. I will just save this for the next time I reinstall. Might try again this week.

Sad that gog.com is so understaffed...I would love if they made it compatible with win10 without issues...

If you have an Intel graphics chip, check this out:

The save-ee.com site was the most helpful. I was having a lot of patchy graphics issues and followed a couple of the instructions.

I made both shortcuts for the original and expansion run on Win7 compatbility.

I also in-game under game setting set it to Direct 3D TNL and 1024 *768 16bit.

So far it has not crashed or giving me the FREEZE hiccups that was screwing me over.

Sidenote: I have win10 with AMD Radeon 7700 as graphics for the others that need to compare notes.

I hope others looking here read this as a possible fix for splochy textures and terrible game freezing.

Knock on wood. I am going to attempt the campaigns and some scenarios to make sure I have not jinxed myself.

THANKS AGAIN Tallima.
Yay! Good luck! If it causes more problems, just drop a line.
After some tries, I managed to run perfectly the game on my rig (i7-4770K / AMD RX460 (18.2.1 drivers) / WIN10 64-bit Pro Build 16299.248).

Steps:

1. Disabled any compatibility (by default it had Win XP SP3)
2. Left DPI checked as it was
3. Run as administrator checked
4. In-game Graphic Options, I set the actual name of GFX card (amd rx460 and not primary display adapter), set 1920x1080-32 bit and Hardware T&L enabled

Worked like a charm!
