Fixed, see edit below.

Both EE and it's expansion give me a "low-level engine.dll" error when trying to start a mission. I've Google'd this error and tried everything I could find(like checking hardware acceleration and junk) and I've tried reinstalling. And compatibility mode does not work at all, I get some DEP(data execution prevention) errors.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

EDIT:
Turns out EE tries to communicate with itself like a client-server connection locally, or something. When I had it completely blocked in my firewall, it crashed. Allowing it fixes it.

Someitmes that file can get corrupted. A fix is located here:

I'm glad the firewall worked.

Also, sometimes people will get that error if their Hardware Acceleration is not turned all the way down or one notch from the bottom. It can be a fickle thing.
