The game crashes on the title menu every time within 20 seconds.

What worked for me was to go into the graphics settings and change to 'Direct3D Hardware TnL' and apply the change. I had to do it quickly before the game froze, but since changing that setting I haven't encountered a single crash.

I did that and set it to run in windows 8 compatibility and it sort of works, it will run and play but will still lock up once in a while, so I just close the game and then go back to saved games and play again until it locks again, not a perfect solution but at least I can play the game if I want to put up with the problem.

Time to revive this post. I bought EE Gold Edition five days ago and nothig, really nothing works.
First it starts with the freezing problem that, thank god, has disappered after severel reinstalls. Then came the graphic flickering that can only be removed by clicking on the Save button. This works about five or six times and then the game crashes. After the crash I'm not able to load a game, save game, campaign or sth else anymore. The game shuts down within a second.
I've tried every single solution I found in this thread or the internet itself.
Compatibility Mode with every Windows Version from Windows 95 up to Windows 8? Nothing
Running as administrator? Nothing
Disabling Fullscreen Mode? Nothing
Changing the game settings to 1920*1060 16 or 32 bit? Nothing
Activating Direct3D Hardware Tnl? Nothing 'cause it was already activated
Trying Solution 6 from http: // forum.ee2.eu/t1707-ee1-empire-earth-and-empire-earth-the-art-of-conquest-windows-8-8-1-fix? Nothing 'cause the 3D Analyser says that it can't move the force.dll
Don't install the game via GoG Galaxy rather than download and install it direct from GoG? Nothing
The game version is 2.0.0. something.

I'm in the same situation, I can´t launch it. Windows 11. Asus laptop. AMD RYZEN 7. Nvidia GEFORCE RTX.

Have you guys tried just getting the Drexmod version? The downloads include the full games, plus a ton of compatibility options.

After that I had a new problem: any time I went into the graphic settings screen the game instantly froze. From other posts in this forum I found out that graphic settings are saved in the registry in this folder:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SSSI\Empire Earth
Changing "Game Bit Depth" and "Texture Bit Depth" to 16 (decimal, not hex) seemed to prevent the freezes there.
I was able to use the registry to set the resolution, although I probably could have done it in game once the 16-bit was fixed.
This STILL wasn't the end of the problems. Seconds into the tutorial, the game kept freezing. I finally had enough and gave up.
