Hello there.

So I've had my eyes on EE series for a long time. Played a demo long time ago, didn't quite make my mind about it. But I also played Rise of Nations. Just a few weeks ago in fact. What really bugs me with RoN is that combat feels just... too much rock-paper-scissors. Now don't get me wrong, I think rps is a nice mechanic, but I felt in RoN they took it a bit too far. It never felt to me like I'm playing a tactical game but instead I'm just frantically trying to match my opponents counters with my counter-counters that get countered with his ad-infinitium. Funny for a while, but get's tiresome.

Anyways, why I am mentioning this is because of this questions:

1) How is the combat like in EE 1 and 2? I remember from demo there was very similar rps mechanic in place but never played it enough to compare it to RoN's.

2) Also, I've sen mentioned in one other topic on this forum that EE 2 plays very differently than EE 1. In what sense?

To whoever answers this, I thank in advance. :)

It's honestly about the same, in terms of rock paper scissors design.
it's all about countering the enemy's counters.

Empire Earth 2 is actually very similar to RoN, in that holding territory and expanding your national borders is a big part of the game. Empire Earth 1 is more typical rts in this sense, although the game still encourages maintaining multiply cities.

I honestly probably like RoN better then either of the EE games, but not to say i don't like them, on the contrary they are games i quite like to play.

hope that settles things up.

Thanks for the answer!

I don't know if it's just me or is it because EE series is so old and overshadowed by AoE an RoN, but it seems really hard to get any sort of definite answers for my questions on the net! So I really appreciate any sort of info I can get. :)

Anyways, didn't quite make my mind yet, maybe in the end I'll grab both EE1 & 2 as they are really cheap right now. We'll see.

Empire Earth is much slower paced compared to RoN too, and it has a much higher unit cap, same goes for EE2.

Much easier to turtle up in EE also, as you can build walls and defense towers.
