the wife and i just bought empire earth 2 from gog.com after buying and liking the first one, from gog.com also. the problem is that every time we try and play a lan game in part 2 together a message pops up and says, "unable to join game, your cd key is currently in use. would you like to enter it again? man i don't know what to do, that is insane. if anybody could assist us with this we would be most greatful, because the only solution i can come up with is drinking a half gallon of crown royal and hoping it goes away on it's own. thanks.
This question / problem has been solved by Ralackkimage
Sounds like your using whatever key gog ships with the game. You will need to email their support and ask for a multiplayer cd key and how to change it.
thanks for that ralackk, it figures it would be something complicated and overly technical like that. well complicated for a man who's lazy and whose only computer experience consists of blowing in a sega genesis cartridge and then tapping it to get it to work. does that count? but i digress, the worst thing of all in this predicament is that my woman is drinking all my crown and trying to get me to watch robin hood prince of thieves. and that, as i'm sure you are aware, is a crime against all that is good!

At the risk of being unpopular I actually kind of like robin hood prince of thieves. The drinking of all your crown I agree is a crime though.
you're right it's pretty good, especially compared to most the stuff she tries to get me to watch, step up and the notebook are two particularly horrifying examples. we both sent in tickets to support about the cd key thing, hopefully we get a response soon.
yeah boy this is some great customer support g.o.g.com has. i can see their commercial, "we at the g.o.g.com family can promise you, if you don't hear from us in the first week, ummm..., hehe..., you're probably not going to!" i can see them sitting around in the office laughing hard with tears coming out their eyes saying, "thanks for the twenty dollars... SUCKERS!"

... and I can see them flooded with support requests which they have to answer, and I also see them being understaffed due to vacation time.
Granted, the support system used to be MUCH better than it is now, but I don't think they are deliberately ignoring requests.
i tell you there is nothing like getting ripped off, sending in two tickets in to support about it, waiting patiently 7 days for a reply, finally saying something about it, then several more days go by, just to have some genius on the other side of the planet tell you that they aren't deliberately ignoring your problem. seriously guy, why would you waste my time by posting such a worthless comment? do you work for good old games? if the answer is no, than you have no idea if they are deliberately ignoring our tickets or not. if you and your wife bought two games that we're broken, and then we're completely ignored by the people who sold them to you, i guarantee you would not want to hear some brown nosing troll tell you a bunch of idiotic reasons how you are mistaken, and they really aren't ignoring you after all.
believe it or not they actually sent us the c.d. keys. so ralackk gets the solve, and ummm..., err..., i have to apologize to dristvaan for allowing my emotions to get the better of me. it's like bruce lee said,"emotional content not anger!"

I have the same problem aswell, even more so because I gifted a friend a copy of this game and now neither of us can play. I sent in a support question asking for the CD keys but I haven't gotten a response yet. And does anyone even know if GOG even has an email that you can actually email instead of sending them a message on their site that doesnt even give you confirmation that the message actually sent?
Contacting GOG does not appear to be a solution. Here is the solution...but practitioners must be comfortable with changing 2 registry keys.
1. use regedit to search for the SIERRA folder.
Basically you are going to find the following locations under SIERRA...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra\Empire Earth II
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sierra\Empire Earth II: The Art of Supremacy
You will find the default (if you bought from GOG) key values in the CDKey value.

2. Do a search on the internet for "gamespy cd keys empire earth 2".
You should find some user forums where EE2 users are giving out their EE2 keys like water.

3. Enter some valid keys from your internet search to replace the default ones.
Some example keys are the following...I would supply some keys here, however I suspect that the post may be deleted if I did that.

4. Close regedit and play the game.... You will want to have a different key for each computer joining a multi-player game.

In your gamefolder there should be a WONLobby.cfg file
Open it with notepad and you'll get this:

Language: EN
ProductName: EmpireEarth
ProductDirectory: /EmpireEarth

DirServer: empireearth.m1.sierra.com:15101, empireearth.m2.sierra.com:15101, empireearth.m3.sierra.com:15101
ResourceDirectory: Data/WONLobby Resources
LanBroadcastPort: 8585
EEFileTransferPort: 33335
LobbyPort: 33336
UseLocalIP: false
NoPingInProgress: true
CDKeyCheck: false
CRCCheck: false
CheckForInternet: true
Public: false
AllowDuplicateNames: true
AppendNumberToDefaultLanName: true
AllowJoinGameWithoutPing: true

// Include version file
IncludeFile: "zzWONVersion.cfg"

Make SURE "CDKeyCheck" is set to "false"

If this doesn't work, why don't you just open the ports and play at save-ee.com :D This way you can play AND with your friend AND with other people accross the world ;).
