I'm having an issue with my game on my laptop, but i'm not having it on my desktop so I know it's not just an issue with the game and modern systems or something. Out of the box on my desktop the game stretches the menu and game view to show in widescreen while on my laptop it's sticking to a 4:3 ratio with black bars on the sides.

On top of that I also can't get any animations to play in my city, walkers work like they should and my buildings are functioning but they seem to only show two states; for an example at my kiln if I'm out of clay I see a guy who doesn't move just sitting around waiting for a delivery, and if clay is delivered the kiln shows smoke coming out of it's smokestack and the worker sits in front of the kiln but he's not moving or anything; it's really annoying! Any idea?

I don't have the stretching/ratio issues but I'm still having this total lack of city animations problem. Anyone have a solution?

Thanks!
I tried a lot of things with drivers, compatibility settings, other running programs. I don't have an explanation but the only thing that worked was rebooting and starting the game before doing other things.
It's a scaling issue and the solution has been posted or linked in several other threads in this forum.
The missing animations are caused by your computer being on (including sleep) for too long. After about 24 days, a number will wrap to negative and animations will be gone. Two solutions are available: wait another 24 days or restart your computer.
