I'm so glad this game has come to GoG! I have played every other game in this series (Caesar, Zeus, Pharaoh, etc), but somehow missed playing this game. Now that I finally own it, I installed the widescreen patch and it's working fine.

I was wondering though, if there's a way to force the game to run in window mode, or better yet, borderless window? Also, is there any way to customize the controls? I'm mainly interested in the map scrolling. Does it have to be an edge scroll, or can I change it to click and drag?

Thanks for any information any of you might have!

1) Borderless Window didn't exist back when this game was made. Even if it did, Impressions had no intention to support that functionality. :P
2) Controls cannot be customised, nearly every control is just point and click with a mouse in any case. The keyboard only has a few commands anyway, mostly shortcuts for most mouse commands (like slow down/speed up with [ and ] respectively, and P for pausing the game)
3) Edge scrolling only, but you can use the minimap to click to different areas of the map.

Hope this helps :)

Shukaku: 1) Running the game in Windowed Mode requires a lot of display changes that have to be reverted after playing. It's not very recommended to run in Windowed Mode.

This helps tremendously. I guess I can stop worrying over the details and just enjoy the game as it's meant to be played (except in widescreen). Thanks so much!

That's not correct. Windowed mode works well as it is, there is no need to change desktop to 16bit color.

I take it windowed mode doesn't work with the widescreen mod though, right?

I don't see why not, but it's neither supported nor tested.

Oops, I was forgetting that you have to do that for recording in windowed mode. Still, I never recommend windowed mode. :P
which resolution I can choose from?

Zeus isn't working well with 1024*768 running on a 13 inch laptop. How about this game?

// Do you know if it's running on Mac OS using Wineskin as well?

1) You can use the widescreen patch to increase the resolution to your screen's native one. Check the sticky post. :)
2) It should work just fine.
3) No, like all games, these are primarily Windows games, so you'll have to wait for the community to create the required wrapper. It just released yesterday, show a little patience :P

I draw your attention
The widescreen patches (by JackFuste, 2012) has a bug that prevents Emperor (and Zeus) from switching to Windowed mode.
(And it has nothing to do with Color Rendering not 16bit)

@vempire_ghost
The problems runs on Zeus with Posseion on a 2.1 version.
Now after I apply the fix to my resolution (i have both pcs, one in 1980x1020 and another 1280x1024) I cannot put in window mode anymore, only if I set the 800x600 resolution, or revert back to the original .exe and use a 1024x728 standard resolution.
It depends on the value of only one byte.
When I noticed the difference in CRC32, XJDHDR explained the reason to me:

@XJDHDR
JackFuste found a problem where EXEs that he had patched were no longer able to be switched into Windowed mode (they were locked to Fullscreen). He then released a patching program that was attached to the forum post linked above which fixed this problem and made it possible to switch into Windowed mode again. I'm not sure why it works but the program replaces a "jump forward 0x6F bytes if EAX is less than ECX" into a "always jump forward 0x6F bytes" command. My widescreen pack, as you observed, come with this fix pre-applied whereas the other packs you found don't.

Now, if you're can't switch to Windowed Mode, then you know why.
Use a resizer from XJDHDR or apply a patch to the old ones.
