I was absolutely thrilled to see EFS finally make it to GOG, especially with the day I just had. Unfortunately, all thrills have been destroyed because I can't get 30 seconds into the actual game without it just dropping to desktop. No error, nothing, just BAM! Gone.

I'm running on 10, did the whole troubleshoot compatibility thing and for a brief moment thought it was working under XP, but that just made it crash after 45 seconds.

Anyone running into similar behavior, and if so have you solved it?

Cheers!

This question / problem has been solved by Arundirimage
Running into the exact same issue, no fix so far I'm afraid. Rather annoyed, as it is advertised as compatible with windows 10. Hope someone has a fix!

Have you tried to configure the DX Wrapper in the App menu of Win10 for the game. And I do not use Galaxy, I did download the offline installer.

I have not, but I just checked it out and it doesn't appear that any of the options should affect the issue. It displays fine, it seems like something else happening. I'll play around with it just to see though.

I also don't use Galaxy, this is the standalone installation.

Cheers!

I'm having the same issue on my Win 7 machine. It runs the intro movie, but crashes as soon as it's over, Seems like it;s something in the graphics driver initialization (though I'm only guessing)

I'm also not using Galaxy, just the manual installer.

That fixed it for me, after running that from the game directory and setting it, it no longer crashes.
I had the same problem, it's very unstable and crashes to desktop, even changing my desktop settings. I asked for a refund.
If the dx wrapper used is the same as in other GOG games I can say that the most critical options to tweak are the display resolution and the vsync. Desktop resolution and fullscreen use to be the most stable option in my build for other games.

EDIT: Of course I mean tweaking it with the dxcfg.exe present into the game folder or from the additional executables into Galaxy.
I could also advise not to use any compatibility settings for the game exe. My experience is that if the wrapper is present in the game theyuse to cause problems, crashes or make the game run much slower. It could be worth the try.

Unfortunately I am experiencing the same issues.

I attempted to have the dxwrapper run the game in a window--it doesn't run it in a window, still fullscreens it after the smacker videoes mess with my desktop resolution. (I'm totally cool with removing the startup videos manually if that can resolve that!)

Anywho, get into game options about 30-45 seconds into starting a new game, EFS.exe has stopped working-->crash to desktop.

Don't see any way atm to get around it, just crashes to desktop.

I'll be patient though before refunding, hope it can be fixed--I know exactly how finicky and problematic running this era of Windows on a modern computer can be. It would be awesome if I could get it running neatly in a window on 10!
Fidling with the stuff people mentioned above I managed to get it to run for about 5mins! Then it crashed suddenly again...
Does anyone have experience with how long it can take GOG to fix these sort of issues? Never had trouble with buying an older game from them before.

The same here :-(
I had it crash on my second game. In the DirectX Wrapper you access in your Windows start menu, I changed Display Mode to "Set by application" and it has not crashed since. I am in year 4976 of my third game
You guys try turning on directplay its in windows features under legacy components this help me in the past.

Programs --> Windows Features --> legacy Components --> DirectPlay

So it means that the game is very sensitive to scaling to higher resolutions. Set by applications means that the game will work at the original ingame resolution.

Good to know. Greetings

I changed it to "set by aplication" no other changes after fresh instal and no mods. Seems to be working now! I could only play for 40mins tonight, but it worked fine for me too. Worth a try to see if this works for anyone else.
