Hi,

This issue has come up on my YouTube channel. Someone thinks that the Holy Leggings, which give a 50% bonus to Holy ATT, mean that they imbue my attacks with 50% Holy damage.

I thought that the ATT % bonus bolstered my Holy magic. So, if I equip the Holy Leggings on a Cleric, they will get a 50% boost to their Holy spells.

Who is right or wrong here? Any ideas? Thanks!

The % elemental bonuses apply only to spells and breath attacks, not to physical attacks.

There are a few finer points to consider:
1. Breath attacks are limited to around 200 damage. This is checked *after* elemental bonuses, but *before* EX skill bonuses and the 25% penalty applied to status breaths. At high levels, therefore, elemental bonuses aren't useful for breath attacks.
2. Healing spells (with the exception of Feireed) are treated as Holy attacks. This means that your Holy Leggings will increase the amount healed by healing spells which can be quite useful, especially at higher levels when it gets harder for the healing spells to keep up.
3. % bonuses to the same element do not stack. If you are wearing Holy Leggings, equipping a Holy Guard won't give you any more bonus (assuming no forging).
4. % bonuses *do* stack with Mastery skills. As a result, it is possible (in theory at least) for a max level Cleric to heal an average of 8000 (and sometimes over 10,000) to the party with Rafeireed.
5. Items are affected by % bonuses as well. This includes Potions getting bonuses from Holy attack. (This means, in particular, that Servants benefit from high Holy Attack %.)
Thanks for the info, dtgreene! Very much appreciated. A question.

Since the bonuses don't stack, is the highest amount then taken? So if I have Holy Leggings (50%) and a Light Steal (20%) equipped, the Light Seal is essentially useless?

Yes. (Except that the Light Seal (not Steal) still provides protection against Holy and weakness to Dark.)

You can use Alchemy (Forging) to increace the bonus that a specific piece of equipment provides.

Also of note is that you can change equipment without wasting your turn. This is useful for mages and bishops, as well as characters with weapons that are only effective against some types of enemies.
Cool. You learn something new every day.

Thanks! :)
