Scythifuge: Greetings,
I have read many posts from people who have the Steam version that the DX12 Beta patch fixes the performance issues with the game. However, the beta patch is not available as a separate download (you know, how all patches used to be back during a better era, before clown world.) THQ Nordic blames GOG by claiming that GOG doesn't have an option or procedure to allow the use of beta patches. I think that I am done with gaming or at least spending money on games until this clown world crap is dealt with. Also, given how THQ Nordic reps have acted, I am more than likely done with them, period. It is Electronic Arts/Origin Systems/Ultima, all over again.
RIP, P.B...
If anyone has any suggestions as to how we can get the beta patch for our restricted and broken GOG version, please let me know. Thank you.
GOG has beta channel capability, but for some reason I cannot fathom, PB doesn't want to invest a couple of hours in learning it in support of their GOG customers. Hello Games used that beta channel capability on GOG quite a bit in NMS! Larian and Hello Games patches through Galaxy and through galaxy's beta-patch channel come on the same day they are released on Steam! This has been true for a long time. Indeed, through Galaxy, Gog makes it very easy to switch between game builds, beta included!
I and others have brought it up with the only PB developer who seems to be doing anything with customers--but only in the Steam Forums. Guy's name is Zyddie, I believe, if that is the right spelling. He doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that PB has any customers on Gog because he never comes over here to post--only on Steam. But you can talk about GOG all you like on the Steam forums--they don't mind!
Zyddie says that they don't have the time to mess with Gog with their D3d12 beta patch for the game. However, he says that when the beta patch is finalized for Steam, then they will also patch GOG version, and from what I read, the D3d12 beta has a lot bugs in it. Several people have reverted to the D3d11 version because of it, and have opted to live with the slow performance because even with the bugs in the D3d11 version, they found it superior to the D3d12 version. So if you were thinking that the D3d12 patch would solve your problems--think again...;) I wish it would, but if it would do that I think they would already have released it.
Frankly, because of this attitude a PB, I have little confidence the D3d12 version will appear anytime soon, although they have been working on it since 4/28, if I remember correctly! I'm skeptical because we get no status updates on Steam, no ETA for the patch--and frankly it doesn't sound as if PB is doing much of anything with the patch since they released it way back in April! Zyddie doesn't act as if he knows much about the situation, actually--he seems to be stalling and covering up, basically. Zyddie is listed as a developer at PB, but when he's asked for some specifics, he never has anything concrete to offer, other than, "we are trying to figure out how to handle a few last-minute things"--but when you ask "What things?" it's apparent Zyddie does not know. I don't think Zyddie is responsible for doing anything wrong, but I do think that PB isn't being forthcoming with Zyddie as to whether they will ever release the darned patch. I don't think Zyddie has anything to do with the patch--he just reports what they tell him--which is a lot of nothing, apparently.
Unless they put out the D3d12 patch soon, and unless it blows me away, this will be the last PB game I buy, as well. Here's what I think: Based on the fact that the game was released with fragmented cut scenes in introduction (like something an amateur MOD developer might release), I think they were in the process of moving the engine to D3d12 when THQ Nordic demanded they go ahead and ship it as is, to be patched later. I think PB had planned on a D3d12 release, but their publisher killed that idea before they could finish. The D3d 11 version has a number of bugs outstanding that apparently the d3d12 beta doesn't fix...so what the heck?
Wish I could be more optimistic, but there it is...;)
