So I have this quest listed as a main quest in Tavar. Bit of background - I joined the Clerics. I so want the juicy EXP, but I really *don't* want to help the Outlaws OR give those drug addled nuts a nuke.

But it's a main quest - I DID talk to the Cleric / Outlaw scientist a bit about progressing it and he's basically like "I want to build it, but trust me it'll be okay - do you want me in charge of it or The Duke?"

So there's really no indication that if I get the guy the parts he'll do anything other than build a nuke. But I'd really rather not skip a quest that's listed in the "Main Quest" section.

So, anyone who beat this quest / game mind telling me if there's a way to eventually destroy / sabotage / "whatever" the nuke?

If I IGNORE it, does it get built anyway and there's an endgame story window that's like "Hey, remember that quest you skipped? The Duke nuked Edan!"

Is it an essential part of the main questline / story? Like I said, I sort of do want to do the quest, but I'm afraid the only outcome will be to give the Outlaws a nuke.

I don't mind minor (ish) spoilers in your reply so don't worry about that!
Answering my own question LOL ;)

If anyone else is curious, it seems the only possible outcome IS actually to build the bomb and then destroy it.

I don't think you can ever choose to build it and use it FOR the Outlaws.

So if anyone else in on the fence about doing this quest, do it (actually based on a later interaction I actually think it might be legit mandatory to advance the main story plot).
As I recall, the quest description stated that you couldn't let the Duke have the bomb and therefore must sabotage it somehow. The end goal was never in doubt at any point.
It's not a bomb, it's actually a giant robot. after getting the 3 parts and giving them, talk to Duke again. Then go back down the pit. Device should be gone. Mark map location according to your Log.
After finishing this quest, just casually exploring the old military domes in the desert I got surprised by the cleric driving the robot in the dome locking me in forcing me to destroy it. Confused? a bit..

If I remember correctly, that bomb quest is scripted as part of the main questline and can't even be avoided.

It was! I think I made a remark about it earlier (not sure if I mentioned it was hardcoded, or just if there was really only one outcome).

It's CRAZY I played this game 3 years ago! Didn't think it was that long at all. Crazy how fast time flies when you look back at it.
