I just recently began playing Redguard through the Gog version and it worked perfectly. I had no issues with frame rate like many report or starting the game to any degree. However, in my last attempt at saving the game, the game crashed, and now when I attempt to start Redguard it loads up to a certain point but when it gets to "Loading Sound" it just stays there. The music starts playing and the game is still running but it won't move past that point.. I've attempted to go into the configuration settings and change the sound drivers and even disable them entirely but nothing works. There is a lot of workarounds for poor performance I've seen online but I haven't encountered any fixes with this issue. Anybody encounter or fix this?

Sounds like a corrupted file, probably in the Redguard folder.
My first attempt would be to back up my save games, and then to uninstall and reinstall the game.

I gave that a try, still the same result. I also tried running as administrator and in compatibility mode (not that those things would make a difference in an emulated game but I tried them regardless).

Just had a look at the startup process of my own Redguard installation (GOG, DOSBox). When I start a new game, a lot of stuff gets loaded, at some point (as you say) it says "loading sound" in the right bottom corner of the screen. On my PC it stays there for quite some time (but definitely less than a minute), and then moves on. Changing the configuration to "no sound" and "no music" doesn't change anything in that respect.
Are we talking about the same thing (except that my installation "survives" the "loading sound" process)?
You also say that it has worked initially, but after the game crashed when you tried to save, the problem is there, not even reinstalling the game helps.
Are you talking about loading a save game or starting a new game? And did you remove Redguard from your disk completely when you uninstalled it (by answering "no" to the question "do you want to keep your saves?")?
Finally, I assume you are using a Windows PC (which version?) which is powerful enough to run Redguard. Otherwise please provide details about your PC spec.
And you haven't changed the default GOG configuration of Reguard and DOSBox (with the exception of disabling sound using "Launch Redguard Configuration".

Unless you tried the following steps already, I suggest this approach:
- Wait at least a minute for "loading sound" to be completed.
- Try starting a new game and see if that changes anything.
- Uninstall Redguard completely (after backing up your saves manually), reinstall it and start a new game. Does this hang, too?

If all this doesn't get you beyond the "loading sound" message, I'm afraid I can't help you (at least not without a lot more information about your PC).

I did remove the entire directory, and I tried all your solutions. The loading sound issue occurs after I have started the game, I can't even get to the main menu, and I've waited upwards of twenty minutes for it to load. My PC is definitely powerful enough, and prior to the crash I was playing for a while without issue. I've pretty much moved on from the game, but I will take a look at those links and give it a try at some point, thank you.

Deleting the game folder may not be enough, you have to use GOG's uninstallation procedure. If you are familiar with registry browsing and editing, you could also check for remaining Redguard-related entries after you've uninstalled the game.
To be honest, my gut feel tells me somehow that the real reason lies elsewhere though.
Two ideas:
- Are you using vanilla DosBOX or the Daum version? The latter is said to be difficult to use sometimes (but I'm not familiar with this).
- Are you using DOSBox for other games, too? If not, try it. You may also download DOSBox 0.74 directly, install it, and try to get Redguard to run via this installation (using the installation guides you can access through the links I mentioned in my earlier post).
