I recently purchased Battlespire and Redguard (among a bunch of other games) as I wanted to finally complete my TES collection. I gave Battlespire a try and after remapping the keys, everything seems to work perfectly. However, when I booted up Redguard, I noticed there's a severe, and I mean SEVERE framerate stutter. It's so bad that it's essentially unplayable. I realize that most of the reviews mentioned low framerates but that's all I was expecting: low framerates. However, my game stutters to the point that it's unplayable.

I'm not too bothered as I didn't spend very much on the game but I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to at least fix the stutter problem. I used to play all my games at like 20 FPS or below on my crappy laptop prior to buying my rig, so it's not too big of a deal (especially when the graphics are so ancient; it kinda makes it feel more nostalgic that way). However, the stutter affects my gameplay altogether and that's why it's unplayable.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks!

As far as i know the problem is caused by the Glide renderer, you need to tweak the game/dosbox until it runs smooth for your system.

Hey, sorry for the really late response, I forgot about this thread! Thanks for the suggestions, I'm currently out but I'll give it a try when I get home. Hopefully it works. Many thanks once again!
Alright, so I gave the fixes a try and first off, half the options they suggested in the guide weren't in the programs anymore (which makes sense, considering it was a fix from the XP days). I did my best trying to make it happen but with no luck.. unless there is some other fix, I guess I'm just out of luck. :\
One last Option is to try a downgrade of your drivers.
The Last years had many important changes how hardware/"support software" communicate with the game and each other. and around 2010 many manufacturer&publisher started removing protocolls/support for several kinds of "Support software"...
Now many old games can't communicate correctly with the PC anymore.
Soory...no really usefull advice left :(

Aside from the technical stuff...you could and should write to the gog-support, Redguard is marked as viable for XP, Vista, Win 7/8/10...so they should be able to help you or give you te money back if it isn't possible.
Hmm, I'm not sure a driver downgrade would be possible for me as I play both old and new games, sadly. :\ But I'll certainly send a message to GOG support and see if they have any suggestions. Being as big of a TES fan as I am, I'd love to finish all the games in the series (even the Travels games someday, if possible), but it may require me to get an older PC to try playing it on haha.

But either way, many thanks for the suggestions and help, I really appreciate it!
Don't be surprised if Redguard has problems on your older computer; it has always been extremely buggy from it's firsr rlease on. early
Let's face it, The Elder Scrolls games, for some reason, have always had quality control issues; Morrowiwd was the first one that was did not have big bugs on release. Yes, it had some minor bugs, but compared othe previous games it was a huge step upward.

Let's face it, I played all TES games + Bloodspire + Redguard soon after they were released, and never encountered any serious issues for which there wasn't a workaround or which weren't fixed soon (including Morrowind). Not different from other games, and, to be honest, on careful analysis more than 50% of the problems were caused by me or my PC, not by the game itself. Moreover, at the time I was struggling more with performance issues, due to my weak PC. And there were issues with the designs of the games and their implementation (dtgreene could provide any number of examples) which weren't easily visible for players mainly interested in role-playing and exploration like me.
To call these games "notoriously buggy" may be "en vogue", but only partially deserved. For me the fun of playing always far outweighed the "pains" of using a workaround occasionally. And finally, the TES community is extremely helpful (based on sufficient information provided by the problem reporter).
This personal comment doesn't help the people who did / do have problems playing TES games, but the general verdict "buggy" is not helpful, too, and it is not generally true.

Be happy you can run it at all
On my computer it will not run, period. I ger the dosbox screen at launch, a black screen then a crash to desktop.
And Ihave tired everything I can think o f. The new GLide wrapper did not work either.
