Hello! Morrowind has gotten very dark, and the gamma slider in the video options no longer does anything. Seems as though it is stuck at the minimum setting and will not adjust, regardless of where the slider is positioned. This happened once before quite a while ago, and a reinstall fixed it. However, two reinstalls this time haven't helped.

Anyone have any insight on this? I don't suppose there's a batch file somewhere I can edit old-style?

Perhaps your graphic card drivers override this setting. There should be an option in the drivers to let the program control settings like screen gamma or V-sync.
Tried updating my graphics driver (UHD 630 on a stock Dell, nothing fancy). Could not find any other way to get the display adapter to do stuff. Boy is Windows 10 a pain, lol.
Couple things to try out.

I don't remember where I read it on the forum, but someone had a similar issue with another game. Turned out to be the Night Light in Windows 10 had been turned on, and it messed with their color and brightness settings in the game. On the desktop, right click an open area, click Display Settings, make sure it's switched off.

There are a couple of settings in the morrowind.ini file that deal with lighting. You could try removing the .ini file, and letting it recreate a new one at startup, or play with some of the settings under the LightAttenuation section.

Mine looks like this, but I may have tweaked it slightly because of modding (don't remember when I last played):

[LightAttenuation]
UseConstant=1
ConstantValue=0.382
;
UseLinear=1
LinearMethod=1
LinearValue=1.0
LinearRadiusMult=1.0
;
UseQuadratic=1
QuadraticMethod=2
QuadraticValue=2.619
QuadraticRadiusMult=1
;
OutQuadInLin=1
