As I only want to use three mods (Unofficial Patch, SkyUI, and Font Overhaul - All In One Installer) I don't want to install a mod manager if I can help it. I've installed the Unofficial Patch and SkyUI with no problem but can't work out how to install the Font Overhaul mod. I've tried loads of permutations to get it to show up but feel that I'm doing something wrong but can't figure out what . Can anyone set me on the right path on how to install this mod manually? Thanks.

EDIT: The mod is actually called Font Overhaul - Natural Typefaces for Skyrim (not All In One Installer).

Hi Pajama,

Sadly I do not have solution for you, but I want to do the same for Unofficial Patch & SkyUI. And I they do not work for me. How did you get them work? I have SKSE64 running (visible in the game menu), load order dealt with by LOOT tool and the plugins.txt in "AppData/Local/Skyrim Special Edition GOG" also seem to contain everything in correct order. Could you please let me know what do you think I may be missing? Is there any way to "activate" the mods that I am missing?

Big thanks,
Milia

EDIT: Found my problem. I did not have the * symbol in front of the mod names in the plugins.txt. Hope this may help somebody. And fingers crossed for Pajama and their last mod.

The font overhaul mod comes as a FOMOD download. Usually you would use a mod manager that can read the FOMOD config file to guide you through the installation process. This mostly means that you can make choices from a variety of possible features. Some of them mutually exclusive (pick a or b), some just additional things beside the core features that you might want to have or not. All this options are part of the download of course, which makes it quite difficult to extract only what you need and want manually - especially if you are not very familiar with modding.

You could google for a guide on how to manually extract FOMOD files or ask on the mod page forum, if anyone can name the relevant folder names and correct folder structure for you.

In this case, you can preview the file contents of the old files to get an idea of the mod's and fomod's structure for install selection. The old files appear to not use fomod at all, so you could just drop them in the data folder like your other mods.

Glad you got it working :)

I've googled how to extract the files but there isn't a .fomad file in the archive only the actual files themselves which I guess should be dropped into the Data folder. The problem is I'm not sure on how to get the choices I make to show up in the game. I may ask on the Nexus mod page but I'm hoping I'll get an answer here before I do.

I'm sorry not I'm not sure what you mean by the old files. The download contains files that appear to just go into the Data folder but I've tried so many permutations but nothing seems to work.

Where did you get the mod? Not nexusmods? On the nexusmods page for that mod, under the files tab where you can download the all-in-one installer, underneath is optional and old files. You can expand them with the blue arrow boxes to the right. All of the downloads have a "Preview file contents" link below their download buttons. That shows what I expect to see in the downloaded archive.

Anyways, from that, I see the main archive has a fomod directory, which contains xml files about the mod and how a fomod installer should handle its contents. I don't know fomod's details to tell you how the xml files work, hence Shabdez's recommendation to look for a guide on how they work.

From what I can tell, in this case, it uses a base directory for what should be installed in the data directory, then mostly adds/overwrites related files depending on your choices.

I did get it from Nexus but hadn't seen the old files listed below. Thank you for the pointer, I'll download that version and give it a go.

Thank you for the pointer to the old files. It does indeed work although obviously doesn't give choices of font to use like the newer version but that's okay for me.
