I played Earthworm Jim for the first time, eons ago, on the Super NES. How could this not appeal? A run-and-gun platformer starring a superpowered worm who fights evil mutant crows in outer space? It was so bizarre that it couldn't help but be hilarious. Surrounded by games that focus on pixels and polygons, Earthworm Jim STILL feels like playing a cartoon. On top of that, the gameplay is rock-solid. Earthworm Jim 2 continues the series' brilliance, becoming even more insanely wacky and artistically engrossing. Admittedly, it's a little more difficult, and the addition of so many new gameplay styles make parts of it a little gimmicky and awkward. But come on: a game where you can swim through a giant intestinal tract filled with pinball bumpers--dressed as a blind cave salamander, no less--to get to an interactive game show can ONLY be brilliant. I played the first two Earthworm Jim games on the SNES and the Genesis, I bought the enhanced Windows 95 version and listened to the music off the game disc in my CD player, I bought the action figures, I watched the cartoon show, I played as Jim in Clayfighter 63⅓, and I even played the ultimately misguided Earthworm Jim 3D. I am an unabashed Earthworm Jim fan, and you should be too. He's funny, he's bizarre, and he stars in some GREAT games. Download these two. Now.
