I must say im so happy that E2140 is now available on GOG. Im huge Earth series fan and it will great that more people can discover this fine series of RTS.
Storyline is described in gamecard, so I will focus about gameplay.
We have 2 nations fighting each others. UCS considered as being America and ED as Russia. As it can be predictible, they are very different from each other. UCS uses mostly mechs and robots (btw. they look so similar to Terminators :) ) and ED is focused on androids and classic tanks. Also its not just a skin, which makes them different. They are actually different units, and what is nice there is no uber-unit, which can alone punish every enemy, because they will be always a good counter against it.
Because you have E2140 with 2 missions packs that means you will have a huge load of missions to complete. They are very different, though. Many of them doesnt like so simple like, start with main building, extend base, mine resources, mass units, win. No. Some of them are rescue missions (you have limited amount of units and you have to find a missing one, avoiding enemy patrols) or you have to capture some buildings (yes, you can actually capture buildings here, just send some of your troops inside them and proper amount of them will do the job). Or you start in the middle of fight, your base is attacked and you have to manage to defend yourself as fast as possible. Also if you think one campaign is too hard, you can always try another, because they have different levels of difficulty.
Its worth to mention GENERAL. Its an option which you can use to make your units go A.I. :) It means they will group themselves and than explore whole map and kill on sight (or get killed :)) every enemy. But be careful, when you have to capture some buildings because AI doesnt respect peaceful treatment :P
I have never tried multiplayer, but I suppose its awesome as much as singleplayer.
Also i recommend to get other Earth series games, because they have really nice and coherent stories.
